Global warming really is happening... (well, duh!)
aintforever replied to 1976_Child's topic in The Lounge
I'm not an expert but from what I've read my opinion is: 1. Yes 2. Impossible to say for certain because of natural variations but there is definitely a trend to warming that can only really be explained by the increase in CO2. 3-5. The effects could be catastrophic, the one thing we can say for certain is that we cannot predict what will happen because no matter how good the science, we don't have a crystal ball. Nature may find it's own way of regulating the temperature, or we could in theory be wiped of the planet. Whilst the effect here might be a bit of flooding, a couple of degree warming could kill millions in under-developed countries. Only a fool would ignore the opinions of the scientific community and just hope it turns out OK. In fact the current situation reminds me of the film Jaws where they hire that shark expert and then completely ignore what he says because it would ruin their income if they shut the beach. What is the point in having scientists if we just go against everything they say? Madness. -
The Football League don't actually want any club to be liquidated, it's just us nutjobs. I expect if they were not is such a fragile position they probably would have been punished more points wise.

The football is shocking, can't even beat a bunch of arabs. No surprise though with Stuart Pearce as manager.

I lived there for 5 years, so glad I escaped. Of course there are nice areas but you are never to far from some scumbag ridded hole.

Yeah, but if you wonder down the wrong street you will get stabbed in the eye for your phone.

We won't sign Walcott, but it wouldn't surprise me if Cortese made enquiries. It's just a bullsh!t article aimed at getting Arsenal fans' in a huff. The fact that us nicking one of their players is even being mentioned in the press will get their blood pressure up. They are not happy with the lack of investment at the moment.

It is hilarious. 4 players left, and they need to offload them before the 10th August to avoid liquidation. Then they will have 4 days to build a team before the season starts.

An old school friend suffered from S.A.D and hung himself in his garage. Another guy I knew gassed himself in his car after he was caught drink driving and couldn't face shaming his family. The mind is a strange thing, I find it impossible to comprehend how people can get into a situation where they feel that is the only way out.

It was a bit rough round the edges production wise but I think part of that was intentional, it was about real people not "step out of line and you get shot" Chinese style. There were so many good parts and great ideas I can't see how anyone would view it negatively. Even Mr Bean, who I don't usually find funny was superbly done. The forging of the rings was a great idea and looked amazing. It would be interesting to know what those who didn't like it were expecting. These opening ceremonies are notoriously dull and invariably end up with dancers running around in costumes making shapes. What Boyle did was bold, different, clever, entertaining and spectacular.

Why do they always wheel out these old ****s.

Maybe, but it's not that simple with modern farming methods, irrigation and GM technology. Huge swathes of Russia will be opened up for farming with a warmer climate. There will be positive effects as well as negatives. -
People have received knighthoods for much less. As an ad for the UK, for a worldwide audience of a billion+ that was pretty damn good.

I thought Danny Boyle did a fantastic job. Spectacular, and conceptually very good. ****es all over the Chinese slave show.

There will be effects but compared to other places on the planet we should get off quite lightly. Sea level rises happen so slowly no one is going to drown as a direct result from global warming. Increased storms will still not as bad as some places are at the moment. Tropical storms and hurricanes are just part of life for millions of people. As many areas will be opened up to farming as lost if the planet warms. Global warming will be devastating to many parts of the world, particularly thosewho rely on subsistence farming, but the UK wont be as bad in comparison. -

Probably since we've been pumping billions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. There is still alot we don't know about the effects of our actions, and indeed the climate in general, but it would be retarded in the extreme to ignore the science. I have read a fair bit about the subject but what I know barely scratches the surface of what these guys know. I have read enough though to know that saying "we are insignificant" is complete nonsense. Human nature means there is no way we will change the way we live though. Luckily here in England our climate is quite mild anyway so any changes won't hit us that bad. -
I don't know about yo yo policy but our signings so far have been sensible, taking into account the fact that there is a pretty good chance we will get relegated rather than gambling on staying up.

Saints fans who don't hate pompey are just dull and souless people. The schadenfreude is half the fun, it's only pantomime hatred get a life and join in.

Aint that the truth. I would go as far as to say it is vital for football that portsmouth get liquidated. Club's need to know that there has to be a limit to how much they can overspend. There has to be the ultimate deterant. The -10 for administration has turned into a weak slap on the wrist for clubs determined to cheat.

Trust you to bring food into it chubbs. -
"Scum" is just a generic derogatory term used by loads of different teams. I don't get why we would call ourselves it.

Ignoring the fact that they were begging the players to stay in January when they thought they could keep them up. Now the same players are being hounded out for wanted to get paid. They didn't give a sh!te when it was blood money buying them success, they didn't care when the next bunch of crims took over as long as they kept spending. It's the same story now, they want the parachute to have a chance to get out of League 1. If they rip the players, local businesses and charities off and start spending again they will be happy.

I disagree, apart from Davis there is precious little experience at a high level there. There is a fair chance Chaplow and Hammond might struggle in the Prem and Schneiderlin is still developing.
