It’s a grand building on a busy street in the City of London, but as soon as the heavy doors closed behind me all was calm efficiency. Photographer Malcolm Wells and I were ushered into a plush meeting room, complete with large flatscreen TV with video conferencing facilities and a plan of the new Convers office, being built near London’s famous Gherkin building. We don’t have long to wait, as Mr Dubov comes in, greets us, and asks us if we would like a cup of tea and how we take it. And that brief moment was an introduction to the man himself – polite, perhaps a little apprehensive, and given to flashes of a self-deprecating humour that is like water in the humourless desert that was the previous administration. He’s a man who is obviously passionate about sport. He takes pride in telling us how his first visit to Fratton Park was in 1999, witnessing Manchester City getting relegated to Division One. He says that sport is in his blood, and how he has been to almost every football stadium in the UK with his two sons and daughter. And he says, in a quiet and polite way, that there was no one thing about Pompey that prompted CSI to buy it, but that it was a combination of factors – not least the fans. One of the most interesting things that struck me was how he said his staff collect all the Twitter and Facebook mentions of CSI so he knows what they’re thinking and what they’re saying. Mr Dubov and CSI may have a reputation for not speaking to the fans – but the fans should know they’re always speaking to him. And that’s the refreshing thing about him. While Balram Chainrai would always claim the fans were being unfair to him, how they didn’t understand how hard things were for him, Mr Dubov silently listens. And whatever the next five years might bring, I get the feeling there are big changes in store.

And it's the home games against the lesser sides that you expect the lion's share of points to come from. Any game away from home is very tough in this league, as is any home game against the top clubs. Forget the current table it's meaningless until all the fixtures have been played, look at the games to come and the points we will need to get and it is a pretty dire situation.

Fulham are not in great form so this is probably a good time to play them but I'm not sure we will get anything after yesterday's dismal performance.

This whole thing is just a storm in a tea cup, it's so typically British that someone so high powered lost his job over something so trivial. It is however hilarious though because it is a pompus Tory asshole that lost his job becasue they are the sort of people who would happily throw the book at a football fan for swearing at the plod. It is also hilarious that some rozzer will also shortly lose his job as well for sending that email. Typical of today's police IMO.

Sack the lot, it's not like it's even skilled work. Stop, go, stop, go, stop, go. You could probably train a monkey to do that job. I can't stand the Tories but even I would applaud them if they screwed the unions over on this.

I would have thought most willing to chuck a grand in the bucket would have done it by now. Waiting until after a court case that could have got them liquidated seems an odd strategy for a potential 'investor'. They are obviously way short of their target so they've delayed the court case while they beg to the rich skates and try to re-arrange the terms with the property developer.

Maybe we should just agree to dis-agree that Sports finance is anything to do with sports.

So Lowe and Cortese are alike because neither of them are Dave Whelan. They may be similar in some ways (not many IMO) but background wise they are poles apart.
