When you look back on what he achieved it was remarkable. Even though it was a different era money wise to win the cup, get us 2nd in the League and sign the European Football of the year. Bates built the club but Lawrie put it on the map. I always remember a mate from Manchester at Uni saying how when he was a kid the first season he really got into football was the 1983/4 one when we finished runners up, 3pts behind Liverpool. He said during his childhood he thought we were one of the giants of the game alongside liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal etc. Fact is if you mention Southampton FC to any oldish football fan they will think of Keegan, Lawrie Mac, Le Tissier or Channon.

I don't think anyone hates Cortese. I think you are confusing disagreeing with some of his decisions with hating. I don't think we should have started with Barnard on the bench on Saturday, I don't hate Adkins though.

I fail to see how the choice of picture in the boardroom influences League position. Maybe that's why we did so sh!t under Lowe, it wasn't rubbish managers or selling all our decent players - it was that bloody train picture.

If we are still in touch by April I would expect us to finish 2nd. Now until April we face a tough run of games with 7 being away and only 3 at home. Our run-in from April onwards looks good with 5 home and only 3 away and with the last 3 home games being Bristol Rovers, Hartlepool and Walsall.

Not quite that simple, if Charlton win their games in hand they will be above us. But it is in our hands because we still have to play them twice. Brighton look like they have it won, I predict a straight shoot out between us and Charlton. I'm hoping the Chris Powell revival is just a honeymoon period, if it's not it's going to be a hell of a fight. A Bournemouth v Saints play-off final would be cool though.

They've got some decent players (Pearce, Pugh, Feeney) plus a bit of a crazy gang spirit being a small squad with their mates as manager & assistant. Plus there is no pressure from their fans or chairman which helps. There is no reason why they cannot keep going until the end of the season but a few injuries would hit them hard. I'm more worried about Charlton, if they win their games in hand they go 2nd.

It is one area where teams like Bournemouth have an advantage over us, their players play without the weight of expectation on their shoulders.

It's good that there's no rift between the Ex saints and the club, hopefully we can draw a line underneath all this now and both sides make an effort.
