  1. I posted similar on a thread earlier and to be honest I am delighted with this appointment. Those wanting 'A Name' or so called safe option will wonder what they were thinking in a couple of years time. When I heard Nigel Adkins was linked at first I was pretty underwhelmed but the more I have found out about him and the way he has behaved this week has impressed me greatly. Anyone who has any doubts then do yourselves a favour and purchase today’s copy of the football league paper. There are 3 articles linked to him and they all impressed me greatly. This man could really be the bright forward thinking manager I have wanted since we lost our place in the Premier League.

I just wish Cortese would stop ****ing about and pay S****horpe the compensation they deserve. He and our club have acted appallingly this week.
  3. I think the majority on this thread have gone a lot mental!
  4. And there lies the problem. Most of us do not know the facts to make an informed decision. I know what side of the fence I currently sit on but I could be completely wrong to jump to the conclusions I have. I guess we will all see when the true facts are made public, if they ever are that is!
  5. The funny thing is Phil Brown is summarising on the Oldham game for BBC Radio 5 Live today. I guess he may have told the BBC guys that he has had an interview and maybe even been offered the job. So it may have not come from the club but the prospective candidate himself!

    Promotion?

We have ****ed up our automatic chances by getting rid of Pardew. Any new guy will take time to find his feet and get used to the division his players and the quality of the opposition. I think we can still make the play offs but how you do in them is a complete lottery. I would have rated our chances much higher with Pardew in charge as he knew how to achieve top 2 form as he got there from about November last season. What a shame we have shot ourselves in the foot with this one!
  7. May I suggest you relaunch Marching In? I always enjoyed your forum!
  8. Not much of a gift for your future together is it? If you ask me it’s a total waste of money and completely brainless present, but hey he is from Stoke!
  9. The old league is still there and the code is 18122-7054. If an ADMIN of the forum wants to take over as I cannot post threads then let me know your user and team name and I will make you admin. There are 3 pages of teams signed up already. You get added to the league automatically if you were already in it last year!
  10. Yep I agree with that. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't recall us cancelling a match when Ted died. He had been associated with us over 60 years and everyone knew him! Strange decision.
  11. And another one, the ignore list is now up to 7!
  12. If ever there was a thread showing excessive 'green eyed monster'!
  13. I agree entirely. You have to wonder why the bookies have us as such hot favourites when it has to be said we still have a lot of questions to answer and we have to change a few trends and prove to ourselves that we can handle the pressure. Personally I would not put any money on us.

That is a very good point and a situation I had not considered or given any thought to. I know contracts can be complex but surely there has to be a get out on Saints side to not extend especially when a player has not played a first team match in two years. I agree with you on all counts it just does not add up that we are releasing him so I would love to know the details of why. It just does not add up that he will be released in August so I think you must be right. What shocks me is if he did get his extension then the criteria for him to get the extension was definitely not based on 1st team performance.
  15. One man went to Mow! I'm forever blowing bubbles! You'll never walk alone! Oh when the Saints! 4 of the most well known and loved football songs that have bugger all to do with football!
  16. The Woolston Ferry I looked over Woolston and what did I see Coming for to carry me home? That old Woolston Ferry coming towards me, Coming for to carry me home . . . If you're ever out in Sholing And you want to go to town Don't you go via Bitterne That's the long way round Take a trip across the ferry Take a trip across the sea And if you're a pedestrian, you can go for free . . . On the Woolston Ferry It doesn't travel very fast It was never built for comfort It was built to last On two steel hauses Across the river it'll creep The steel glints in the sunlight And flops back into the deep And from the deck of the ferry What a wonderful sight All they shipwrights grafting At Thorneycrofts on the right On the Woolston Ferry It doesn't travel very fast It was never built for comfort It was built to last Go and see Lowry's painting In the art gallery Of this wonderful relic of a past centruy When I sing of its construction You'll be surprised to learn That the bow going one way Coming back becomes the stern! On the Woolston Ferry It doesn't travel very fast It was never built for comfort It was built to last See the weather-beaten captain With his weather-beaten tan He don't wear no gold braid He's a corporation man And the captains of the ferry They're a dying race Cos there ain't no ex-tram drivers To go and take their place On the Woolston Ferry It doesn't travel very fast It was never built for comfort It was built to last But the floating bridge has had it They say it's got to go Cos the motorists don't like it At 15p a throw So they build a bridge of concrete Very modern, very high But every time I use it I look down on either side . . . On the Woolston Ferry It doesn't travel very fast It was never built for comfort It was built to last, to last
  17. I am not in favour of the registration fee in fact I have never paid it and I find on most occasions 3 posts a day is more than enough. I do follow threads though and the OP is spot on that certain posters are hijacking the majority of threads. I have blocked 3 of late but I still have to view the majority of what they write because their posts are usually so controversial and opinionated someone always responds quoting them. Just to put an idea out there how about having to pay the registration fee again if you receive a ban? It may make people think twice. Also no idea how many moderators you have and in all honesty they do a thankless job but wouldn't it be an idea to get a few more. Quite often it appears that there are none around (we all work I know). It may help to get someone moderating who does not often attend matches as match days can get silly at times. My vote goes to Alpine Saint (OK poor joke I know).
  18. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/8875644.stm Wenger talking him up. With the new premier league squad rules this lad is not coming to play in league 1!

We really need another thread slating this guy don't we! He wont be here after his contract expires in the next few weeks anyway so what really is the point? I think everyone agree's he is not up to it but time to move on eh.
  20. I cannot see a guy starting for Arsenal in their prestige pre season tournament being aloud to leave for a league 1 club. Wenger hates his young players getting kicked in the lower leagues which is why he doesn't often let the best ones go out on loan. You are dreaming if you think he is coming to Saints!
  21. It is not often I agree with you but on this matter I wholeheartedly do. Judging by the comments made by Pardew to Wotton at Sutton United last week both before he went on the pitch and once he was on the pitch then I think he figures in Pardew’s plan’s and I honestly cannot see him going. Pardew also praised Wotton after the match in his post match comments which adds a little weight to my view.
  22. I am just back from the game and I have to say that was a brilliant test for our team. Make no mistake Sutton United are no mugs and they will go close to winning the Ryman Premier this season. They are very big and strong and had lots of pace up front and out wide. They finished second last year and lost out in the play offs so they are a decent non league side. In the first half Saints were very poor but the side had 3 central midfielders and it looked like Hammond was told to push on and support Lambert who was up top on his own. We really did not get going and everyone looked off the pace especially the back 4. Harding, Fonte and Jaidi looked very rusty indeed. Ryan Dickson looked awful in central midfield but he seemed to be carrying a knock and was duly substituted. The Sutton goal was a big mix up between Jaidi and Kelvin and in my opinion the latter was in a poor position. In the second half we were much better and looked far more composed on the ball. Morgan was very good in midfield but occasionally tried to do a bit too much. It was good to see RIcky get his goal which was well taken. Joseph Mills and Lee Bernard looked lively when they came on. I also agree with Pardew and Paul Wotten did lift the energy levels in the other players when he was introduced. I heard Pardew clearly give a message to Wotten with about 10 minutes to go to tell the other players to go and win the game. OK we failed but it shows that Pardew has faith in Wotten to lead the team in tight matches. I thought a special mention must go to young Oxlade-Chamberlain who was my Saints MOM. He was full of running and put in one or two decent crosses that no one got on the end of. I like him and think he will have a big season.
  23. My Forest supporting mate thinks he is a very good player and having watched a lot of Forest with him I would tend to agree. He is direct, quick scores regularly but not prolifically. I think he would be a great alternative to Lambert and you could partner him with any of our other strikers. He offers us something different with his pace and strength to what we already have and he also has versatility as he can play wide left as well. I think if we can get him for 750k then we should definitely make this deal.
  24. I totally agree. In all honesty I would prefer Tyson as I think he brings more to the squad i.e. his ability to play wide as an impact sub as well as up front. If not Tyson then a younger hungrier impact player as said in the UI article.
  25. PMSL I remember your efforts to get the cards done at Heathrow. Hope to see you at the match mate.
