  1. A few injuries in the right places might be helpful in forcing Hughes look a bit deeper into his squad for options that might work better. Wouldn't be too upset if Bertie picks up a yellow (5th) and misses the game v Watford.........at least I wouldn't have to watch our "captain" jogging back to defend an attack in progress ahead of him. I might take up Lighthouses offer to do a different kind of shredding to that we will likely endure on Sunday afternoon! UPDATE: Steveo think you yellow card wish might go right out the window - we have Lee Mason as referee for the game
  2. You could hardly blame him for being less than enthused (If that were the case). Pretty certain he got a renewed contract recently keeping him here until 2021(?). Same old inert strikers being named in the squad for first team games pointlessly running about the pitch or cluttering up the bench. I certainly would be bloody frustrated and slightly lacking in motivation. Just be good to see him given a run out and given as much of chance as Messrs Long and Austin have underservedly enjoyed.
  3. Walked past a bookies today saw the game was on - thought “should put a tenner on Burton winning & Hesketh to score” - alas carried on walking Cracking volley too
  4. Nope just a journalists mind at work - and the silly sod said what he thought out loud (well loud enough) in the wrong place. Made worse by the fact that he works for a very respected organisation.
  5. On paper their average transfer value per player is £69.2m v our £11.2m per player, I think you are safe in that assumption. .............but then football isn’t played on paper.
  6. Watch out I had my sanity questioned for a similar utterance............
  7. 23 years of age, shipped out on loan to one of the worse teams in the league, then the following season shipped out to another basket case club and played out of position...................... yup the lad is a steaming pile of what you would find in a farm yard. Agree throw him in the bin and keep playing the same misfiring strikers week in week out. Jeez!!!!! Only 23 give him a bloody chance, with the experience he has he can't be any worse than what is being sent out to play at the moment.
  8. Well it is just about 4-4- One and a half!
  9. Redmond isn't the root of the problem just the most visible frustration to those in the stands watching on, he hasn't improved since being here - his goal tally backs that up. The whole team more often than not cross the centre line and take their foot off the gas, they also seem to forget how to play football. On Saturday so many times the ball went backwards and the player who had just passed the ball turned to teamates to tell them where they should have been. Second half latter stages of the game this was highlighted by how long it took for us to take throw ins, no one moved, everyone played statues! That said our front line is a bit inert, we have one capable of being pretty damn good in the right company, one who is without doubt rusty - but even in Italy scored in fits and starts, one who looks to struggle with 60 minutes of play, and another who's feet are working in a different timezone to the rest of his body: at this level it ain't very potent. You could view it as being so lacklustre that the rest of the team are anticipating that the ball will be coming back at them within seconds of it going up front, which is probably why as was said on MOTD we are snatching at chances, as everyone else is setting themselves ready to defend.
  10. Well for starters you can point a finger a Redmond in that department, get the ball run, then stop, dither while the oppo defence sets themselves.....resume. On the rare occasion football actually breaks out in the team and we move the ball quickly, teams open up like a can of Spam and we look a threat. Alas that is a rare freak of nature as the default setting is get the ball upfield then fanny about.
  11. Better adjust your criteria to fire up the woodburner and get some more wine in!!
  12. Highlight of yesterday was getting home firing up the Woodburner and pouring a glass of Red. I have seen some crud over many years of watching Saints, but that yesterday was bouncing along the bottom (the odd moment when football broke out being the top of a bounce!). Newcastle were woeful and we weren’t far behind. You certainly have to question what the dickens they do in training all week as the amount of times the player with the ball looked up and no bugger was showing for them, summed up perfectly when Jack Stephens hoofed one right up in the air and whilst the ball was in flight just shouted and looked at his team mates with the body language of WTF are you doing?!!! Amazingly Charlie Austin did actually win the ball as it returned to earth. Once again you have to ask the question as to how is Ryan Bertrand Captain? Certainly we get odd flashes from him, but in reality these are peppered with half baked trotting back into defencive positions with a very laissez faire attitude. Without doubt we missed PEH yesterday. There have been comments about Hughes not bothering to watch academy games and not willing to give a nipper a run in case it goes wrong and reflects badly on him - keep rolling out the same forward line every damn week and, pay off aside, persisting with what you have been up front will reflect badly on you anyway matey.
  13. Manner from heaven for Saints fans get the app and vote like mad to get him on every trial he is eligible for.
  14. Well might be sprinkled with a bit of a smirking Malwhinney when he announced our 10 point deduction.
  15. That's why its amazing that we don't hear a peep out of the bloke, Chinese are materialistic, the more successful they are the more they push for more, the more bangles they have shows everyone how successful they are. Our Chinaman seems very private and secretive, very Swiss. Which is probably why Kat sold to him.
  16. Still reckon we should get the White Witch back to top up what she got rid of when we first moved to SMS - she did her stuff back then and away we went. The arrival of Markus was a positive force of good to re energise the place. ............anything has to be worth a go, no matter how far fetched it might sound: there are many sensible folks wary of messing about with Ancient Briton sites like the one the Stadium is sat on. With regard to the players coming in, whilst for a while we were without doubt a stepping stone to the big club big bucks. Its like the recent lot through the door believe all they have to do is pull on the Red and White striped shirt and hey presto they are on the fast track super highway to riches beyond their wildest dreams at another team. Right now there only seems one player where the penny has dropped that whilst the magic Red & White cloak helps, sprinkling on a bit of effort and endeavour makes you stand out.......actually he's probably worked out that he doesn't need to waste too much effort and endeavour to stand out with the current crop of ordinariness: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
  17. Brett for me - if he knew a shot wasn’t on he knew exactly where his mate Beattie would be to rifle it home. Shame about Shane seems his legs are so fast that like an old fashioned international telephone call, they create a slight delay in the message between his brain and his feet!
  18. A ray of light to colour these grey drab times https://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/2018/october/chairman-plymouth/?fbclid=IwAR2vLpZWnzfFhC_v1ItRxwZED0DTGsIH21z-GtVx1gvdaIdhUFj8jsLQNBA
  19. There have been plenty of occasions in the lower leagues where promotions have been earned over the course of a seasons performances, where the promotion has been blocked due to not having a suitable ground for the next league up. What happens if WHL still ain’t ready into next year and the fixture list double books Wembley. Like I said if it were Saints you could pretty much guarantee that the dust and cobwebs would be blown off some ruling.
  20. No surprise really if you read this posted in another thread. https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/projects/inside-spurs-stadium-ive-never-in-my-life-worked-like-that/10035311.article Unless they have extracted a digit up there or a bit of “sous la table” shenanigans takes place for the safety certificate, they could well be tagging on dates into next year. And the FA will let them without sanction, you could expect if Saints 55,000 seater megadome extension over ran they would be all over us like a rash with points deductions and fines galore!
  21. As much as folks slate him, give him time and space and he starts pulling all the strings, last season at SMS everything went through him and he opened us up with ease.
  22. Why would you want to stay if you have any desire to play football and you know you are 3rd in Line for a game behind a player who pretty much trundles round the pitch, and another who can’t hit a cows backside with a banjo coupled with not knowing what his feet are going to do next.
  23. Theatrical diving practice is looking for Bournemouth
  24. Someone was saying Gallagher was out of sorts for the U23s, he must be thinking what’s the flippin point?! Far too much hoof and Hope from us so far
  25. Blimey just watching MOTD, the Pitch at Wembley looks like it’s been transported from the 1970s!
