  1. For the record - I've made no comments about the junta / democracy / exploitation etc. etc. I simply commented that I thought it was her release was a noteworthy event.
  2. A bit like the UK brown-nosing the Chinese, really.
  3. I think this is as important an event as the release of Nelson Mandela.
  4. There are other cafes nearby. If people don't like the smoke, then they should know not to go there. Why would non-smokers want to go to a tobacconist's shop anyway?
  5. I thought I was quite high anyway? One of the boys is my ex-husband's son from his second marriage. We're an arty lot in my family.
  6. There's a cafe in Bruges that is also a tobacconist. So you can sit in the cafe and smoke. Civilised IMO
  7. Well - *hands on hips smiley thingy*
  8. You're a one trick pony, aren't you If they're paid more in the public sector then they're overpaid. The corolloray to this being if they got paid the same in the private sector, well that's fair c Instead of sniping at each other, we should all be pushing for a dignified, living wage for everybody that doesn't require the taxpayer to subsidise poorly paying employers by paying out for benefits. It's not rocket science FFS
  9. Because in SOME (being the operative word) cases this is so. Many, many former public sector workers have been transferred to the private sector (viz catering / cleaning staff in hospitals). Already low paid, once the TUPE period term had been worked through their terms and conditions were inferior to those they'd enjoyed in the public sector. That's how.
  10. Wait a minute Mr Postman

  12. ^^ My family were Conservative activists. My political views were shaped by studying the Industrial Revolution for History A Level.

  15. And herein lies the rub. The present government proposes fixed term parliaments. So they have 4 years of harsh cuts enabling a big give away in year 5 to court the electorate. With the previous system, there was, at least, a chance of a vote of no confidence and the premature downfall of the party in power. No such chance now. So watch out for the bribery in 2015.
  16. A slight exaggeration I think. I'm no apologist or supporter of this publication, but the kudos of its (unpaid) contributors leads me to accord its articles some respect and background reading. I'm more likely to ridicule the unresearched, knee-jerk, I'm alright Jack publications such as the Mail.
