  1. I can't believe there's a subject on which I agree with June!!!!!! I think alcohol is capable of causing more damage to others than either nicotine or drugs (unless DUI of drugs I suppose). Generally nicotine and drugs damage only the user whereas alcohol can cause a lot of damage to others (not just driving but domestic / public violence too). And yes, tax it and cut crime related to the supply as well - and it's not just street dealers, it's big time criminals and governments too.
  2. He's a nice bit of eye candy though
  3. Dangerous Liaisons
  4. I think we're at cross purposes here The minimum wage for 18 (to 21) year olds is £4.92 and over 21 it's £5.93. I don't know what sort of age the poster was looking for for the job in question. I'd assumed, given that no information was given, that it was an over 21.
  5. How did things go? In looking for an answer to another question, I found this http://www.equalities.gov.uk/pdf/401727_GEO_EqualityLaw_Rights_acc.pdf Have a look at the example given on page 3. Might this be relevant to your colleague?
  6. Doesn't seem to be covered by anything in the new act http://www.equalities.gov.uk/pdf/401727_GEO_EqualityLaw_Rights_acc.pdf
  7. or Spike Jones? (Hello mother, hello father - here I am at Camp Granada.......)
  8. Hmm my mistake - I made the assumption that we WERE talking about adult wages.
  9. I think this is a Cornish saying originally. An ex-manager of mine used to say this and he was from Cornwall.
  10. When I was a little girl, if I said to my dad 'can I have an icecream / bicycle / whatever', he'd always reply 'yes, you CAN have an icecream, but whether you WILL or not depends on you asking properly'. Oddly, I spent my day with my little granddaughter teaching her to say 'please may I have the play-doh, Nana' rather than 'I want play-doh, Nana get it'! They're never too young to learn IMO.
  11. I think this will come back to bite her on the bum Daft thing to say.
  12. ^ Another one like this that annoys me is: "I'm going to try AND do it". Surely it should be "I'm going to try TO do it". Even dear old Auntie BBC gets this one wrong.
  13. rinse (brigade)
  14. That's illegal, isn't it? The minimum wage is £5.93 an hour.
  15. What about elbows on the table when eating,eh? My dad used to tell me off for that time and time again.
  16. I echo Sue's comments. As she says, natural good manners and respect for other people.
  17. Because I'm a conspiracy theorist, I still wonder if he was, in fact, imposed by the FA to see what was (and still is) going on. Maybe P**pey were told they could perhaps get the various payments early as long as they had him in charge? I wish, anyway ............
  18. That's a bit disconcerting. I think you said in the opening post that your flat was 'self-maintained'? Surely that means that all of you who own flats in the building are also responsible for repair and maintenance of the common areas, including the roof. Have you set up a management company with the other leaseholders to cover such instances? Having been stung in the past by being a leaseholder, I would now be very wary of such an arrangement. But I'm sure there are others on here who are far more qualified to comment. It might be worth checking it out.
  19. Gotten is OK, although rarely used here. Years ago, I was friendly with an American guy who taught English over here. He used to say 'gotten' and I used to argue with him about it. However, he was right when he said it was Old English http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/got.html
  20. (Trebuchet - We've got one of those!) diseased cows
