  1. Johnny I can assusre you that's not the norm! Honestly! We struggled to bring up 3 kids on his full-time official's salary and had a very modest standard of living. It used to be the case that some unions paid their full-time officials the average salary of their members. But some took the view that, to attract the most competent to negotiate with very highly paid employers, a bigger wage was needed. More than that I don't know - I'm not married to him any more
  2. It corrects the assumption he's made that union leaders 'get fat on the proceeds'. I do admit that 'the proceeds' are not explained. I took it to mean their salaries paid for by union members.
  3. He really is a good guy, isn't he.
  4. Figures. Appalling spelling on the main site and the Football Fund website
  5. Maybe, just maybe, the Administrator wasn't aware of this move by the FL until the eleventh hour also? Just a thought.
  6. I generally have you on 'ignore' so I missed your posts. Two consecutive posts tweaked my curiosity. So thanks for your advice - I'll have a good look at the links.
  7. We've got John Lewis cards and, a few months ago, they phoned us to tell us that someone was 'testing the water' by using our account for small purchases, the idea being that if the small purchases went through the fraudsters would then try large purchases. It was a nuisance having to wait for new cards but in the scheme of things the wait was better than being 'done'.
  8. Can I just take a moment to correct you on this point. My ex-husband was a full-time official in a Trade Union (as Regional Secretary). I can assure you we never 'got fat'. Indeed, to my chagrin, he stopped poaching and turned gamekeeper and earnt double the salary he was getting from the Union.
  9. Whilst I have no doubt that they're both aware of the situation, surely there's some mileage in getting the local MPs involved? I know MPs are personae non grata ATM but they can bring pressures to bear that we mere mortals can't.
  10. Do you suppose the Southampton MPs have / might raise this matter? What a shame Tony Burnham isn't Sports Minister any more as he really seemed to be on the side of lower league clubs.
  11. This is exactly what I surmised earlier. I'm not happy to be proved right
  12. Thanks Tony I like this guy
  13. Maybe the FL are asking Pinnacle to sign a form that says they won't pursue the -10 issue and Pinnacle don't want to burn their boats :smt102
  14. SSN reporting 'dark clouds over St Mary's'. Possible that Pinnacle will be granted extension. Hold up is the whole SLH / SFC distinction.
  15. I always Refresh rather than F5.
  16. When auditors are appointed to review something, Terms of Reference are submitted by the auditors to the auditees for approval and agreement. Auditors are not permitted to delve outside those Terms of Reference. I think the Administrator feels that the auditors in this case did, indeed, go beyond the agreed Terms of Reference.
  17. Will we be able to field 11 half decent players next season after all this?
  18. I've got mixed views on how older people are treated here. On the one hand, my mother received exemplary treatment for both diabetes and leukaemia, the latter involving drugs that cost £30K a year. But, on the other hand, her GP gave her painkillers for a painful neck when it turned out she'd got degenerative arthritis of the spine. This resulted in her gradually losing all feeling and movement in her arms and legs. It was only picked up when she was admitted to hospital for a separate problem. It's as if the GP thought 'well, you're 83, of course you're going to have aches and pains'. Bearing in mind that people of her generation treat doctors like gods and hate to complain, I think its useful if they have an advocate, prepared to stick up for them. I'm old too but I am more than happy with the service I get from the NHS - not that I use it very often. But it does offer me lots of screening which is reassuring. I think President Obama is looking to change the US healthcare system, isn't he?
  19. Achingly, ar$e-numbingly slow, that's for sure
  20. It's already been said that our new owner is 'a household name'. But that's stretching imagination too far
  21. Yes to which bit?
  22. Did they say it was MK? Because I think he looks a bit like Salz.
