I need some advice: 1. If a company is unable to pay its staff wages, is it technically insolvent? 2. If a company is unable to pay bills but has issued invoices still to be settled, is it technically insolvent? 3. Is there any way that an employee can find out from HMRC if his / her income tax contributions have actually been paid by the employer? This is nothing to do with Saints BTW - just a gap in my knowledge that needs filling. All help gratefully received.

I wonder how many 'paid up' members of the Blue Rinse Brigade had a say in Cameron's election too? At least I do have a say in the election of the leader of the Labour Party, via my Constituency organisation and my Trade Union and via the Co-operative Party. Not that I would vote for GB BTW. Jon Cruddace would be my man.

I'm not backing him - merely pointing out how the election of a PM works in this country! This time next year there will be a General Election. The result of that will determine who becomes Prime Minister. Did you actually vote for David Cameron to be leader of the Conservatives? I don't recall that I had a say in the matter. However, if the Conservatives win the election, it could be construed that the electorate has ipso facto elected Cameron to be PM. What won't happen - and this is where your attempt to link Brown's 'hypocrisy' with that of Dinner Jacket falls down - is that GB will say that the electorate has overwhelmingly voted for the Labour Party and, therefore, him as PM. He won't interfere with the ballot and well you know it.
-
Or mythology?

No Prime Minister has EVER been voted into office by the electorate. GB is no different to Thatcher, Major, MacMillan ...... The ruling party's MPs are the ones who choose the leader of their party and, thereby, the Prime Minister. 'Twas always thus.

I remember my grandparents would invite us round for 'supper' and a game of canasta on a Sunday evening (pre kids) and supper was a 3 course meal! My gran was a superb cook. My husband and I used to partner against them and they'd always end up having a row over strategy and moves. The ensuing silence often lasted until the next Sunday when the whole process would start all over again. I learnt to count and multiply when I was only 4 by playing crib with my grandfather

So true! They have engaged me already but the choreography won't be known until the day. I have to make it up as I go along

Do all versions have the option to declare 'Acaba'? Or is my memory playing tricks (again)?
-
It's such a long time since I've played (because I don't know anyone else who does) that I've forgotten which version! My grandparents taught me and used to have a special table cover with places for the melds etc. My grandfather had been in the Merchant Navy and was a real card sharp. They must have played the 'Scouse' version since they were from Liverpool. I remember later playing with friends and having arguments about wild cards and how much was needed to *cough* go down (). I'd love to play again - waste a whole evening!
-
Wow Stanley! I'm well impressed

I had my pic in the Echo once (featuring me and my dance group). I've performed with some well-known names (dancing, that is ). I out-classed Angie Best in the Fitness classes stakes, when she tried to muscle in on my customers. She lost LOL.
