  1. I asked this question before and no-one seemed able to give me an answer. How much would a 'breaker's yard' sale realise? Does anyone know?
  2. Does he still live in Warsash?
  3. That's one way of looking at it. Another take on it could be that it enables people to make their own decisions instead of having them foist upon them. My mother was given a grant to have handrails fitted to her front and back doorsteps. My brother (who is in the building trade) was able to source used handrails and fit them free of charge (obviously). This meant my mother, who couldn't walk more than two steps, could use the balance to buy a collapsible wheelchair for the rare occasions that she had to get from a disabled bay to her destination. She didn't feel she needed a full-sized wheelchair (mainly because it wouldn't fit in the boot of my car). Had she asked for a 'proper' wheelchair, that would have been an additional cost that Social Services would have had to grant. So she actually saved Soc.Servs. money. But, with respect, this thread has wandered again.....
  4. Nick - that's not how it works these days! When people need mobility aids, their needs are assessed by Social Services (usually an Occupational Therapist). If they qualify (the user) THEY ARE GIVEN A BUDGET TO SPEND AS THEY SEE FIT. Social Services DO NOT BUY mobility aids. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/HomeAndHousingOptions/YourHome/DG_4000634
  5. Nick I absolutely endorse the points you are making in your first paragraph - it's often the little guys who suffer the most pain. But with regard to your second paragraph, my understanding (only from what I read on here BTW) is that Salz is a real supporter of the club, as are his cronies. Real supporter wouldn't look to 'sell on for a profit', would they? And if we were sent down to L2, would they necessarily be able to sell the stadium for a profit anyway? Or am I being too sentimental and naive?
  6. I don't know anything about Salz and any bid. I'm just trying to think using a bit of logic. I suspect Salz is a facilitator (since he's engineered hugely successful takeovers and mergers in the past). Successful business men and women make their money by trading at the opportune moment. I wonder if the people he is working with are waiting for that opportune moment to buy at a low price (being the offer of last resort) leaving them significantly more money to invest in the team.
  7. Left overs are always good for breakfast. Especially trifle
  8. I'm working today I decided to take last Friday off and work today instead as Mr TF is working. Also to make up for the hours and hours I've wasted on here instead of doing proper work
  9. Except that her name is DR SHAIKHA Al Maskari Here's some stuff about her: http://app.amed.sg/internet/amed/read_content.asp?View,137, She is "The chairperson of the Tricon Group, which is wholly-owned by her family" - notice the different spelling.
  10. You go into any Conservative or Labour club and you'll find many people who aren't the slightest bit interested in politics.
  11. I think some have suggested that he might want some sort of role with the club as a 'reward' for being a facilitator. I can't see that being a technical role somehow, so that leaves a commercial role that could include a directorship.
  12. I still get pain in my knee 10 years after rupturing my medial ligament and tearing the ACL in a skiing accident. Most injuries have long lasting pain / discomfort.
  13. How about Bruges? Lace, chocolates, diamonds, pretty canals, lovely buildings, nice food. I don't know about how good the beer is though I like Barcelona too - good transport system, Gaudi cathedral and Parc Geul (sp?). Good cable car ride up / down to the beach. Picasso museum. I'd go back to both of those cities again.
  14. Earlier it was stated that MJ was declared bankrupt in 2004. Can he, therefore, be a director of a limited company? No agenda behind this question - just curiosity.
  15. My understanding is that the Administrator has to make regular (monthly?) reports to the creditors. This is the best explanation I've been able to find - it's worth following the links within the article: http://www.companyrescue.co.uk/company-rescue/options/detailed_administration.aspx
  16. I absolutely agree with you JB about the public sector having to spend up or lose budget for the following financial year. It's crazy and it has a knock-on effect on the private sector in that suppliers have to stock up like mad from about February onwards to supply the sudden rush in orders before the end of March. But nowadays budgets are actually reduced year on year in real terms anyway, unless there is 'special' money for specific initiatives (e.g. reducing cancer waiting times).
  17. I'd be surprised if Phil typed 'principles' when he meant 'principals'.
  18. Given Salz' extensive relevant knowledge, reputation and expertise, as well as his contacts, is it not possible he's been playing the long game?
  19. I've just been reading about the planning conditions from when the original application was made and you're right. I was hoping to find reference to some sort of covenant restricting the use of the land but I didn't. However, the Council would still have to grant a change of use for residential / industrial development.
  20. I think it was because the land was on a west / east incline and there was concern about the aquifers. But once we got the costs, we didn't explore the matter any further. It was about 10 years ago - my memory's not THAT good
  21. Good scheme - but you can see that a partnership was drawn up between the local council and a developer. I honestly can't see Southampton City Council doing a similar thing (providing the remediation, providing the infrastructure in the form of services / service roads etc.) at a time when both councils and developers are strapped for cash. I know of a similar remediation project in East Anglia (that I've audited) that has experienced all sorts of costs, problems and show-stopping because of contaminated land.
  22. Hmm that's not my experience. I remember an outrageous amount being quoted to remediate ex gasworks land just to provide temporary hospital carparking!
  23. But at what cost? It's hugely expensive to decontaminate land to a level acceptable for housing development. Considering that most major developers are scaling down their land banks, I can't see any developer buying the land given the cost of remediation. And that is supposing that the Council gives planning permission.
  24. Hypo - I think if you bother to read the preceeding posts to mine with the link to the chart, you'll find that I was challenging the assumption that debt is ALWAYS worse under Labour than under the Conservatives. I was simply redressing the balance there. However, in the same way as you find my posts objectionable, I find yours about me so too - because you jump to conclusions about me that are unfounded and unfair. I've categorically stated in the past that I left the Labour Party because of my opposition to the Iraq war and to PFI - hardly a blinkered view I'm sure you'll agree. Indeed, just a couple of posts up, I actually said I'd welcome Vince Cable as Chancellor of a Labour government. So please try - very hard - not to knee-jerk quite so much, eh
  25. Most people have agendae when it comes to politics, religion, sex and football
