Won't that eventually lead to fewer flights TG? Meaning that the need for a third runway will be obviated? I don't have strong views either way, having for many years lived under a Heathrow flight path BTW.

One of the arguments against the Euro is the perceived loss of control over any member country's economic situation. Interestingly, today, the Germans have decided, quite independently of any other member state, to introduce a 50bn euro stimulus package. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7825513.stm I'd be delighted if we adopted the euro. Tradition is a non-argument. There are very many traditions in this country that we still keep alive that make us British. There are many more that whose loss haven't made us less British. Anyway, think of the money we'd save by not having to pay commission etc every time we go to Europe.

I think so too. And the splendid irony of someone wearing them 'to keep warm' whilst wearing a skirt no longer than a belt and a vest

He just really wasn't very bright, was he? Even though I disliked the guy, I always held my breath when he was talking off the cuff - waiting for the next foot in the mouth comment from him - and feeling embarrassed for him.

Only last weekend I found the photo of Channon carrying out the 'topping out' ceremony on the house my father built for him! -
Never met DSM but I'm sure intelligent and articulate are in there, without a doubt

I'm so pleased that the future citizens of Southampton won't be denied the opportunity to adopt in years to come http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4043131.Fat__hampton__Not_to_mention_Obese_leigh_/

Sort of makes us glad that we're all slim, intelligent, articulate and very good looking with beautiful hair and skin, doesn't it

See my response to Ponty above. I was developing your response to my 'suggestion' (made with tongue firmly planted in my cheek) to the logical conclusion that a super race could develop........
-
You KNOW I'm not saying that. You know me better than that I probably didn't express myself very well. I was responding to Hatch's response to my sarcastic proposal that parents had to have a (presumably) high IQ. This would, quite possibly (depending on your views on the nature / nurture debate), lead to their children being intelligent too and, therefore, not willing and available to do jobs that people with low IQs have historically and conventionally done before. OK?
-
So we end up with a 'super race'. Sound familiar? And who would do the dross jobs then? You offering?
-
I understand what you're saying StL and I usually agree with you. I just wonder a bit where we draw the line. Will the next thing be an IQ test for potential adopters? There are plenty of 'natural' parents who are overweight but who successfully raise 'normal' weight children.

Fair enough - far better that a child ends up in care than in a loving family.

Oh dear - looks like P**pey might be in trouble because of the state of their pitch last weekend: Fulham are considering installing undersoil heating at Craven Cottage after their postponed Premier League match against Blackburn on Saturday cost them £100,000. (Daily Express) The Cottagers and Portsmouth, who were due to face Manchester City, may face sanctions from the Premier League if it is found they did not take sufficient action to prevent the postponement of their games.
