Pair that with the fact that Downs being “good” was a pretty big stretch at the time. He’s been laughably bad which nobody predicted but even best case nobody was expecting him to come in and score enough goals to promote us. He’s a project, probably an unsalvagable one at this point, and it was obvious he wasn’t enough on his own. The fact he was a Spors priority signing speaks volumes.

Let’s be honest, did anyone expect we’d get anyone decent? Whoever was going to fill this role would have been supporting 32 year old with no experience who likely won’t be here past the end of this season. It’s hardly an enticing job is it?

Appointing some random from some airy fairy academy as assistant manager basically guarantees Tonda will be here until the end of the season which also surely guarantees this season will be wasted.

Kevin Miller played a few times for us in 2004 or so at about 38 years old and 5 stone overweight. I remember him being bad but I don’t think he was as bad a Baz.

What’s wrong with the defence? You cannot be serious. I don’t like Bazunu at all but the idea that we’d be top six purely as a result of swapping him out for a more competent keeper is deluded.

No other club in our position would have even considered giving Eckert the job. The fact we did on such limited evidence, especially when the warning signs of some of those second half performances were already there, is plain bad decision making. We should have thanked him for giving us a few results and given the job to someone with the level of experience required. He may turn out to be a top manager, I highly doubt it’s going to be with us having been over promoted to a job that is clearly too big for him. We’ve essentially wasted a season as a result of Spors poor appointments.

On what evidence? We would need, at the very least, a complete overhaul of the defensive unit and a new manager. We all know SR won’t make the changes required to have us sniffing the top six.

If SR can’t identify a better option for manager than a 32 year old with nil experience then I really don’t know where we go from here…
