£65 Million for solanke - jesus christ ? supply and demand i guess but that’s crazy !

goalkeeper and CF remain as big an issue as they were a couple of years ago. let’s hope they can be addressed before the end of the window. think the transfer business elsewhere has been solid enough to date

Good signing for the money

Baz is an outfield player who plays in goal. Confidence plays little part in how crap he is as he doesn’t have the capability to be a premier league or football league keeper for that matter. In the same way that no matter how confident I am, I will never be a premier league striker or brain surgeon. Lets face it if he recovers he’s back as No. 1. Plain as day. I question if there has been a worse first choice keeper in the football league for the past two years.
-
He’s not played a meaningful amount of football for 2 years so I think when looking at our forward options we should discount him entirely. Looks like a gamble that hasn’t paid off so time to move on and try and claim on the insurance. We need two new strikers.
-
No ones saying McCarthy dragged us single handedly to promotion but it helped a lot in the playoffs having a competent keeper at championship level who was able to do the basics well and the defence looked so much more comfortable with him there. That’s not necessarily praise for McCarthy more an indictment of how bad Bazanu is.
-
He did well in the last few games and playing him was a major reason we went up but ultimately he did the job you would expect of a decent keeper. It was such a relief not to have Bazanu in goal and we looked a much better side with McCarthy there for a host of reasons. Anyone with a modicum of footballing nouse could see that and I don’t believe RM and his backroom team is stupid, however if we were serious about replacing Bazanu, now is the time to do it but looks to me that it’s McCarthy as number 1 until Bazanu is back which is a piss poor outcome really if that’s what’s been decided.
-
He is absolutely abysmal. You only have to look at how much better McCarthy looked in comparison over the last few games. It a reasonable assumption that had he not been injured we would not have gone up. It’s difficult to know what his level is ( none-league?) but when he’s back from injury a season in the lower leagues has to be the best for all concerned. If we are serious about staying up then we can’t be contemplating playing him next season or any season frankly

stating the obvious but donnarumma is some keeper. very ordinary italian side but a keeper like that will win you games
-
The system is so rigid and he bemoans the absence of philips or a replacement but if so change the system to suit what’s at your disposal. Sometimes crap performances are down to the players and the lack of a decent left back doesn’t help, but it was clear the players were confused as to what they were doing and were at times just getting in each others way. There were two key issues. The absence of a functioning midfield. Can you imagine the carnage if we play Spain ? The second is we don’t have an offensive left side which is pretty crazy for an international tournament where we are supposed to be one of the favourites. Realistically he only has up to two games left as manager so what’s to lose ? We may as well set up to attack and see where that takes us.
-
That was abysmal. Reminded me of the turnip taylor days but without carlton palmer. There’s no functioning midfield or width on the left and by the end the players didn’t know what day it was. At times there was no one up front and kane seemed to be playing CM. Think a lot of that is down to the coach and the way they set up. It was a shambles really. We need to ditch the TAA experiment and play rice as DM and bellingham as the CM and at least try and get some control and cohesion. Not sure if shaw is fit but we are crying out for him at LB as Trippier offers nothing going forward
-
Why are England games so tough to watch. Some great players but no cohesion My twopenneth would be to put bellingham alongside Rice, move Foden central and put Cole on the left.

Angus Gunn
-
Even the goal that was offside - how did he not get that over the bar ?
-
Gunn doing a good Bazanu impression
-
I fear we haven’t yet given up on the Bazanu experiment ( or more accurately trying to recoup some of the stupid fee we parted with) so it might end up being a stop gap for a year until he is ready to return to letting in shots for Saints. I don’t wish the lad ill but hope we don’t see him next season as it will be tough enough staying up without him between the sticks.

Thought fraser was good in that LWB role at wembley

Football is a funny game Against Cardiff and Leicester and Stoke we folded and lacked resilience yet somehow we stopped the decline away at Leeds and built again from there. Sometimes no rhyme and reason for it but by the time we got to Wembley we had resilience in bucket loads. The crux of it was he managed to get the defence back to what it was doing during the unbeaten run and we suddenly looked very solid and compact again. The Wembley game reminded me of WBA away in the league.

Southampton 1-0 Leeds - Saints are Promoted!!

Fantastic day out. Started badly however when Kingx tube was closed due to a flare being left off and ended up in Euston underground with several hundred/thousand leeds fans. Could only get better from there. Took my two boys and absolutely brilliant memories. The 20 minutes after full time was incredible. Thought we were in control for the most part and defensively were excellent. Fair play to RM for setting up the team as he did and thought the whole defence was very disciplined. The contrast to Leicester away was remarkable really and a special shoutout for Adam A who I hope goes onto score a shed load in the premier league and also Alex McCarthy who played a big part in seeing us over the line. -
good game again today he’s looked solid and steady without him playing these last three ganes we could well be in a very different place

Prior to his achilles injury he was out for several months with a hamstring injury so by the time we start next season he won’t have played any meaningful football for 18 months. -
