I’ve flipped and flopped on this. He has been a revelation for us; and I don’t think that’s because of “cheating” I also do think his position is untenable now. BUT ultimately I think it should come down to what the players think. Do they hate him? Still trust him? Same as above, I really don’t care about what he did. It was a minor infraction, that should have been handled better by all. I’d go even further - I actually want saints to cheat and push the limits, just not to get caught. Football is an absolute mess and has been for ages, so I don’t care about the morals of any of this. I just want saints to win. I think it will be taken out of our hands though and he’ll be banned. (Although - even that will be ridiculous and OTT based on the Bielsa precendent).

I do agree that it’s minor, but then I also think spying on Boro’s training was minor so it’s all about how you play the hand you’re dealt. We *could* have been smart and hammered them in the press for stuff like this. I doubt it would change anything, but at least the optics would shift from “Southampton FC should be thrown into the sun” to something a bit more pallatable

Playing for the club that directly benefited from the punishment is of course a huge irregularity and it obviously shouldn’t have happened. IMO.

Tbf I thought they were one of the best sides we’ve played this season. They were really well coached. If they had some strikers they’d be a top, top championship side. Hope they lose tomorrow though. I certainly won’t be watching it.

Probably; their IQs are likely low enough that they can’t hold two coherent sides to an argument in their mind at the same time. For us normal people, we can have a discussion about how saints were in th wrong, but it wasn’t that bad, then Boro used it against us.

Ultimately, our intention was to see if Hackney was playing (he didn’t) …And they caught the spy before he saw anything. So how did it deserve such a harsh punishment? It didn’t materially affect the game in any way. It’s all from Boro blowing it out of proportion.
