Nowt to do with the budget raising indirect taxation then? I think you´ll find that when you increase VAT by about 80% it will have a detrimental and rapid effect on inflation
-
What about the high inflation in 1975 down to the Tories legacy? The inflation in 1980 was caused by Thatcher abandoning collective bargaining, increasing VAT to 12.5%, petrol duties and other indirect tax rises

Conservative Support Growing In The Latest Polls

Fair enough, the system is skewed towards Labour but the Tories should at least be able to get a workable majority, given Browns unpopularity , this shows to me the electorate still don´t trust them though. -
I can remember inflation being down to 8.9% in 1979 before Labour left office, being over 10% when they took over in 1975 and rising fast because of the Barber boom and the oil crisis, and rising to 20% in 1980 under her Ladyship.

Thats the point mush, only the largest party? They should be winning this with a landslide as Labour did in 1997. This just proves the dearth of political talent in the shadow cabinet. George Osborne FFS -

I obviously want Labour to beat the Tories in this election but i know that Gordon Brown is a liability to Labour. I just don't get why he so desperately wanted the job in the first place, after Blair he must have known he wasn't going to cut the mustard in todays media obsessed politics

Sorry mush, can't be in the same party as dune :-/

At straws clutching, rearrange these words in the correct order :-)

Don't panic Mr Mainwaring :-) I love it, you Tories thought it was in the bag (and it should have been considering how much Gordon Brown is disliked) but now it's just slipping away from you.I want to wake up the day after the election and see masses of gutted Tories on the tv.
