Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 3-0 Vitesse Arnhem - Europa League R3
Jez replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
You were the 4th person to take his post seriously and reply in quote to it. At least you realised 2 mins later... -
This is what I was thinking too. And although I'm sure loan deals have their merits, I'd rather be signing someone on a permanent basis. You can argue either way with Toby, it was a successful loan whilst he was here, but then we have to go through the whole palava each close season to get a replacement (assuming we signed a CB on loan), and we don't have a settled side etc. Would much rather have 2 x Fonte's permanently than a different loanee (or two) each season. Without knowing much about him, I'm ignorantly hoping we can sign someone better than Chester anyway, so not worried if we miss out on him.

In depth article. I like the final quote from Les... “There is a myth about youth development in England and it’s born out of this excuse that only 0.1% make it to the top,” Reed says. “Therefore, if an academy gets one player through, they’ve done a great job. “I said: ‘No.’ That’s got to be six. There’s no point running an academy at category one level if you think you’re only going to get one through every now and again. We have raised a banner and shown you can produce homegrown talent. You can get them on a journey.”

Yup, I just got a boner too. What a hunk of a man.

No doubt they read posts 2496 and 2499 then took to twitter

Dexter Morgan? Hopefully Clasie will come out on top or else he'll be dead.

If the clause in the contract for £1.8m (or £1.5m whichever it was) didn't exist, I would have thought it would be quite likely we would have tried to purchase Toby over Xmas, by which time he had proved he would be an excellent permanent acquisition for us, or even purchased him at the end of this season, before Spurs got so involved (yeah, sure they were keeping tabs). And of course no doubt for more than circa £7m too. Hopefully therefore we won't get rolled over and just simply get the £1.8m as compensation for missing out on the player and we do actually use what legal stuff we can - if Ath Madrid don't stick to the contracted agreement and some agreement is reached outside of it, I'll be gutted, and it'll be really frustrating. We all know how football seems to be a law unto itself (See the continued existance of Portsmouth FC as a prime example of that) so nothing however surprises.

Sammy Lee, Howard Webb, Kelvin Davis, Lisa Scott-Lee's daughter and Tadic. I'm sure Lisa Scott-Lee's daughter had plenty to add to their conversation.

Can we lock this thread and start a new one that might actually be about Toby? I could understand it a little bit if Toby was also being linked to Spurs and/or Liverpool...
-
Same for me. Make an announcement ffs!
-
Did he turn up for your lunchtime drinks I am sure you had and tell you loads of inside transfer info? Happy birthday!
-
Yeah, I heard this too. The wife of a player told a friend, who told her friend/lover/husband/colleague, who put it on the previous page of this thread and then I read it using my eyes. MLG said it isn't true however, so now I'm not so sure I can believe my eyes.

You're gonna look like a right idiot when we win it in 2067

I live in Portsmouth, so can't wait to have a little chat with all the skates I work with. Lovely. It's the best known thing in Portsmouth these days, and the most recognisable land fixture, so for it to be red & white is brilliant (from a football fans point of view) As someone alluded to above, I had to check the date...

Osvaldo in the news for all the wrong reasons... again
Jez replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I wondered why I read this again, and I remember commenting last time about what made up nonsense it was. Didn't register with me this time that it was Bertrand last time! tbh, I almost believe it now he used Osvaldo! -
Nice work! Thanks for sharing. Bournemouth have certainly grown from the 3,000 jawillwill originally mentioned.
-
Jawilly, redo the list now with the current Premier sides (or upcoming to involve Bournemouth) - that would make for more interesting reading. Turkish I'm sure won't revisit this thread, you'll be safe.
-
But you came on here to check anyway? ha, your mate should go somewhere else tomorrow night and try the same trick, reinforce those rumours...

Unfortunately his tweet says.... Paul Hirst@hirstclass·6m6 minutes ago I'm told MUFC are no longer interested in Clyne so looks like Liverpool are in pole position to sign him
-
Simon Peach@SimonPeach·1m1 minute ago #MUFC are no longer interested in signing #SaintsFC right-back @Nathaniel_Clyne, according to PA's man in north west @hirstclass.
-
ffs, accidentally skipped a few posts and missed the video from Clyne!
-
Jenkinson or Clyne? If Clyne... what comments?
