  1. I'd welcome Beattie back. I think he could still do it in the Championship and would be the right sort of pressure on our other strikers, especially Lambert.
  2. Having a fully armed and operational sarcasm detector, I saw what JackanorySFC was saying all along...
  3. As I've alluded to in another thread, I think most people are capable of hypocrisy. The only difference between most people and the likes of Wenger is that "most people" are not in the public eye. As others have mentioned, he's not the only football manager to engage in such double standards. Makes me wonder why he is a specific target. Being French probably doesn't help. Anyways, Arsenal were not a fun team to watch before Arsene took over. Not only do they play attractive football, they've also won things. Not for a while, granted - but Wenger's contribution to the English game has to be assessed in totality. Personally, I think football historians will be much kinder to Wenger than the people who are currently deriding him for a bit of the ol' hypocrisy.

Having checked out that thread, most people on that thread essentially said "here's my opinion". Your first post in that thread was along the lines of "here's my opinion, and some of you must be idiots for thinking otherwise". With an opening contribution like that, I am not surprised that you're getting a bit of jip in that thread.
  7. Do you have any ad-blocker software enabled?
  8. I don't remember seeing him in the Monster Manual.
  9. I started going when I was 10 or 11 and used to pay the £3 "Boys" charge. If I'm being totally honest, I took the Saints for granted when I lived in Southampton. It was only after I moved away that I really started supporting them.

    SSH tunneling ftw, mate
  11. 28 appearances last season, so obviously not permanently crocked. Wages might be an issue though.
  12. Is the club offering potential new recruits a substantial wage increase for achieving promotion?
  13. See that's not very constructive. We're trying to get all bans lifted. Except for Hitler. He's still banned.
  14. We used to be part of the visa waiver system. This worked as you described, with a form being filled out on the plane. And yes, this was one of the kickbacks from the special relationship. This system has been replaced with ESTA, which is essentially the same thing, with one major difference. You have to apply for a visa up-front, and they tell you whether you're accepted before you travel. All done online, so there is more chance that they can spot serious problems and prevent you from entering the country. From my own experiences, US Immigration really has one goal. To make sure you go home after your trip. I was in NJ in March, NC a couple of weeks ago. Got loads of questions on my second visit about why I was coming to the US twice in the same year. This is also borne out by their "special relationship" with the Republic of Ireland. They got so fed up catching Irishmen turning up with suitcases full of tools and having to pay for their flights back that the Irish now go through immigration in Dublin.
  15. I can type faster than I can write, and it doesn't look crap. Before we get too misty-eyed on the demise of hand-writing, just remember all the times you've had to decipher someone's ink-strewn cursive. It's crap, and thinking back, all the time we spent doing handwriting practice in school was a total and utter waste of time.
  16. On a more serious note, have the mods come to any decision in their hollowed out volcano?
  17. I'm pretty generous on the whole, will pay for people etc, especially if I haven't seen them for a long time. That said, I don't like it when people take the ****.

    The Stain

Well, for me it's becoming a serious case of voting with my feet. This is not the only place to get Saints discussion. It's the best right now, but it's travelling down a dangerous road in which people are getting banned for forum banter. And shame on anyone reporting people to mods for these trivialities. Grow a pair. When you think about the real problems we could have, such as out-and-out racism or incitement to violence, the banning decisions look like off-the-cuff errors of judgement which fail to appreciate why people come to forums in the first place.
  19. The only things that I hand-write are birthday cards. A long neglected skill.

Just goes to show that all banning really achieves is another fiver in the kitty.

Just read the Hypo thread. It's all there, three pages, and rather amusing.
  22. Spending power is extremely handy, but it doesn't guarantee success. Sven's almost in a lose-lose situation here. If they do well, people will just point to the spending power. Failure will call aspects like transfer policy, tactics and motivation into question. That said, I strongly suspect that Sven could use ten pound notes as toilet paper if he wanted to, so the lose/lose is more of a "lose/lose (but I still get paid)" deal.

Spot on. Everything is good in moderation, including moderation.

Look at this thread. It's an absolute classic. Transgender posting, hacking and an Empire-quality reveal. "the stain might be Deppo" "nooooooooo!" And yet the people who created this fine close-season drama are banned. You're not really thinking big picture, mods.
  25. Rather fitting that we seemingly had a defence akin to Swiss cheese tonight.
