Took exception to the Summer Rumours thread getting locked, created a bunch of threads in a 10-15 minute period about individual players ( don't know who - all were deleted before I got here ), and called the mods the "Stazi" on the HCDAJFU thread. That's actually pretty impressive. I expect Hypo is using his time out to ride off into the sunset on a large Harley Davison.

No disagreement. Nevertheless, the reputation of the press as a whole has been tarnished. Time will tell whether Rusbridger and co were up to the same tricks, and questions have already been asked about an unofficial code of silence between media players.

The ignore option shouldn't even be an option.

I can buy into it. Murdoch has a lot more room to manoeveur. It's essentially a scrap between persistent autocracies, or large corporations as they are known and our relatively transparent form of Government. The tragedy is that in the search for the stories, the media has become the story, becoming pretty much everything that it is supposed to defend us from. Good democracies are underpinned by a strong press and sterling investigative journalism. The NOTW, and almost certainly other news outlets, have spied on private citizens in search of revenues, hurting the whole industry, and hurting our democracy in the process.

I think a lot of people will. While I haven't gotten into it much with Hypo, surely the whole point of a discussion forum is the collision of ideas among people who purportedly share a similar interest. Every voice that is lost from this forum diminishes the whole, I feel. That includes people we don't agree with.

You've obviously never been to Shirley on a Saturday. I've always liked going to Pompey. Went on a school trip to many of the Victorian forts, which was cool. Lot of stuff for history fans in general. Also, they have a permanent fun-fair. As a kid, I always thought Southampton came off poorer for not having that ( ok, we had the little thing up at the Sporty, but that barely counts )

Not really talking about individuals - just the general principle of banning. Now if we are talking about individuals, and we're being constructive, it would be nice if Hypo learns to enjoy himself when he returns. Oh, and bring back Deppo.

All bans are stupid. Don't know who the mods think they're protecting. It's not like anyone is forcing us to come here, and sadly enough, there is even less reason to come here when regular posters are banned.

I watched Transformers : Dark of the Moon a couple of weeks ago. Easily the best of the Transformers films, but still far too focused on squishies and still depicting the robots as dim-witted teenagers. These are highly advanced robots capable of interstellar travel, ffs. Fans of the 80s show should check out Transformers Prime, which is a new CGI show masterminded by a couple of the Lost writers. Definitely one for Blu Ray players when it hits. Otherwise, caught X-Men : First Class. It's a good X-Men movie, but then all of them are IMO. I seem to be the only geek who has time for Last Stand.

Nor me. I visit this site a few times a day, and I have trouble keeping up with the really large threads. Imagine someone returning from a four-week break. A 76 page thread is almost inpenetrable at that point. Difficult to know what page relevant stuff begins on, difficult to post as well - how do you know that someone hasn't already made your point 6 pages ago. The fact that the thread in question was chock full of the usual hilarity and took the (ahem) venerable football rumours site as inspiration certainly didn't help.

Hmm, let's recap, shall we. A post goes up suggesting rumours are separated into individual threads named for the player in question, a load of people agree at the time ( can't remember there being many dissenters ), a moderator locks the thread and business carries on as normal. Some people, clearly not happy with the loss of their thread, start a new thread to compensate. This is closed too. Finally, a new post in the HCDAJFU arrives with the word "Stazi" in the subject, and hypo is banned. Feel free to add to this tapestry as appropriate. This isn't a freedom of speech thing ( well, the moderators probably don't appreciate being likened to the East German secret police ) - it was a re-organisation of information. Some people didn't like it. Toys were ejected from perambulators. I don't see how having more threads to read, each with a relevant title, somehow curtails the right to free expression.

Governments are temporary. It's the institutions that persist through Parliaments that build real power. It'll be interesting to see how far the politicians are willing to go on this. If they go after News International, they've got to go for the kill. Otherwise NI will persist into the next Parliament and many of the politicians will not.

Struggle has got to be relegation, hasn't it? I remain predictably optimistic regarding our chances. I accept that we probably will need a couple more signings to compete for promotion, but I think we have a very decent team now. If we made no other signings before the end of the window, we wouldn't struggle. The point is moot because we will make further signings.

If that is true, I predict roughly 20 posts on how Cortese is taking a large dump over MLT.

One of the striking things about the Cork transfer is how easy it should be for him to integrate into the team. Don't think his transfer is an issue in that department.
