I see use of the word “brave” as complete deflection by Russell. What he does is claims to take responsibility for the poor performance's, but then by implication, blames the players in intimating that all would have been ok if they were “brave”, presumably in carrying out his instructions, hence, their fault, not mine.

What I’ve observed with Ipswich is that they will not roll over, even when the odds are not looking favourable, a very gutsy team.

Regarding the general criticism of Bazunu, last season it was probably justified, but even then that wasn’t really on him, he was just too young and inexperienced to be put in that situation. This season he’s pulled off some fantastic saves to keep us in games. Yesterday, he made an error, but it should not have proved catastrophic in the way it did, and that is also not on him.

That is a risk with the loan players, they were enjoying the ride when things are going well, showcasing themselves for lucrative prem contracts, but going into their shells on the pitch and phoning their agents when they are not.

What I would say in his defence, the away game at Millwall was very tight, he completely ran the show in the second half that day. All things being equal we’d have been better if had kept him, he did possess the X factor.

Frustrating isn’t it, we need to take a few shots from outside the box when the opportunity is there and we need players to run directly at their defence in central positions, but we don’t, it’s like we are trying to pick a lock rather than kick the door down.
