It's hard to put a value on a player though. No player is worth £5m realistically, but if the player desn't want to leave, they're one of our 'star' players, then teams will have to cough up for them, it's not like we need the money. I don't think we'd sell Lambert because he's worth more to us than what we could replace him with. Shaw is the highest rated young player in the country at the moment, and Morgan has been absolutely outstanding. I don't see us entertaining any offers short of 15m for Morgan or Shaw, especially if Cortese wants to carry on this vision of building the team round young players. It makes him look pretty stupid if we then go and sell our best young players after 1 season in the prem, and Cortese doesn't come across as someone who likes to be made a mockery of.

Good to see Kimi was quickest this morning! Mclaren way off the pace again. Also good to see Massa looking back to his former self.

Saint Garrett replied to Wiggles31's topic in The Saints
I know very little about him. His goalscoring record isn't great though. Played 17 times for Athletico this season. -
Fabio Coentrao went for €30m. Dani Alves €35.5m Sergio Ramos €27m Glen Johnson £17m

http://t.co/OJW14B6an5 7:47am Friday 22nd March 2013 in Saints News By Gordon Simpson, Senior Sports Reporter Saints keeper - I was racially abused by fans ARTUR Boruc has revealed why he threw a water bottle towards Saints fans – alleging he was subjected to “racist” insults from the stands. The Polish keeper was involved in the controversial incident during his home debut last October, as Saints lost 2-1 against Tottenham Hotspur. Boruc chucked a plastic bottle towards home supporters in the Chapel Stand after conceding the second goal. He was subsequently dropped from first-team contention while the club conducted an investigation, before being cleared to return to action a few weeks later. Speaking about the incident while on international duty, Boruc claimed he had reacted to taunts from the crowd. “I blamed myself for it because I gave Adkins the reason that he could sit me on the bench,” he told the Polish media. “I won’t say I regret it, because I heard insults from the stands. Racist ones.” Boruc has now established himself as the club’s number one keeper, having joined as a free agent last September. There is no suggestion from him that the comments he says were aimed at him came from more than a small minority. There certainly appears to plenty of mutual respect between the keeper and the fans as a whole, as was evident following his penalty save in the 0-0 draw at Norwich earlier this month. It has taken him some time to emerge as the first choice, however. After waiting a month for his debut, he lost his place following the incident against Spurs, which occurred during his second game for the club, and did not play again until January. Boruc revealed that then-manager Nigel Adkins had not initially seen him as part of his plans. “One must remember I joined them when not ready, so I had to catch up with the rest,” he said. “The situation was a bit funny. “Adkins didn’t see me in the team, but his bosses decided to hire a new goalie because the team played poorly. “I was thinking I’d get ready quickly, but I had to come to terms with a different role. The coach had his vision and I was a bit angry. “The games I played I didn’t do too well, and there was the incident with the bottle. “But I like such challenges, and feel good when I hit the bottom, because you can start from scratch.” Boruc is out of contract in the summer and has said he is leaving negotiations over a new deal to his agent. He has the support of Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino, who said last weekend that he would be “really pleased” if the 33-year-old stayed at the club. Boruc could start for Poland tonight, as they host Ukraine in a World Cup qualifier (7.45pm kickoff UK time). The Saints stopper has been brought back into the international fold by manager Waldemar Fornalik, after being frozen out by the previous boss, Franciszek Smuda. Boruc was called up earlier this year and started the 2-0 friendly defeat away to Ireland in February. Poland are third in Group H, three points behind England, but with a game in hand. After facing second-bottom Ukraine tonight, they will host basement side San Marino on Tuesday. The Daily Echo contacted Saints for a comment on Boruc’s interview, but they had not replied at the time of the paper going to press last night.

http://www.westham.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=313540 Plan B Anyone? Previously, the media have been quite insistent that Sam Allardyce fancies signing Rickie Lambert in the summer. With Andy Carroll set to return to Liverpool, Marouane Chamakh likely to return to Arsenal and Carlton Cole out of contract, Lambert, the highest scoring English born player in the Premier League, seemed a good acquisition for Big Sam. But that idea may just have been blown out of the water with it being reported that Lambert, today, signed a two year contract extension and at the same time remarked, 'To be spending the next three years at Southampton is something I'm absolutely delighted about.' Right, where`s that Plan B?

People are scared of change though. And now people have seen that we have improved, people are beginning to see it was probably the best decision. And you can't be shocked by fickle football fans?! -
http://m.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2013/mar/21/respect-loyalty-success-open-thread The combination of footballers and Twitter is rarely a good one, but some players use the site to good effect. Matt Le Tissier, one of the game's more amiable characters, often opens up his feed for a question and answer session with fans. Le Tissier is asked one question more than any other: "Why did you not go to a big club?" You wonder why he bothers but, to his credit, Le Tissier always provides an answer: "Why should I have moved? I liked it there." In one way, it makes perfect sense. Why should he have given up the life he enjoyed to chase medals and money? Is putting medals on the table any more valuable than staying with a club that appreciates you and gives you enough of the ball and the green stuff to enjoy your profession? When Michael Owen announced his retirement this week, he could look back on a career that took him to some of the world's largest clubs. But not many fans remember him fondly. Owen chased success on his own terms and will never be loved the way Le Tissier is. Le Tissier made 443 appearances and scored 162 goals for Southampton, but he never picked up a medal and only played eight times for England. A player with his talent should have achieved more than that. Whether Le Tissier stayed at Southampton because he enjoyed his life there or because he was loyal to the club is debatable. The club signed him when Oxford United had turned him down as a schoolboy. Le Tissier repaid their faith in him by rejecting moves to more successful clubs, with Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United all rumoured to have wanted him. Should he have shown less regard for Southampton or was he right to repay the club that gave him his chance? What about today's players? Any footballer as gifted as Luis Suárez should be playing in the Champions League. Does he owe it to himself to be taking part in the biggest club games – or should he stick with Liverpool, who stuck with him when the football world turned against him? Gareth Bale was once a laughing stock at Spurs; if he played, they lost. But Spurs kept playing him and he developed into the £70m asset he is today. Would you respect Suárez and Bale more if they left their clubs in the summer to maximise their personal success?

Fact is these teams who sit 11 men behind the ball are difficult to break down. Especially with us who very rarely shoot from outside the box. -

Loved Adkins but very excited about the future under Pochettino. Early signs are very promising and I just hope we can keep going in the right direction. Be interesting to see how we approach the summer transfer window, and what we start next season like. I'm sure Poche will have his ideas in place for pre-season. -
Thanks will have a look.
