Mayuka was 21 when he joined.

But the club clearly had faith in the players that we already had. Players like Fonte, Shaw, Cork, Morgan, Lambert, Lallana, Puncheon. Whether it is proved right or not is another matter. But I'm glad we didnt buy a load of old timers looking for their last pay day.

But the money was spent on talent AND POTENTIAL!!! You cannot measure potential within 6 months of the players signing.

So. Booked our tickets yesterday. 4 of us going. Now just need to decide on our plan. We've been discussing the idea of going out on the Wednesday and driving to Liege and staying there for a night. Then heading over to Spa (Not yet sure on campsites - any advice would be good?) for the gridwalk in the afternoon. Friday we were thinking of having a wander around the whole circuit so we can see it all. Saturday heading over to a place on the circuit to find a good place to watch Qualifying, and then Sunday have been told to turn up very early to get a decent spot. Staying Sunday night, and then working our way back on Monday, stopping somewhere on the way back (not yet been decided) and then come back to England on the Tuesday. Very excited as I've never really been to a racing event before. I'm assuming there is plenty happening in the evenings ?!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21701370 Collicini out til May if you still think they're involved...!
-
You'd probably be looking at atleast £12m for Hooper now anyway.
-
Would start Gaston instead of Lallana. Have a front four of Punch, Gaston, J-Rod and Lambert.
-
Yup. I also watched the Man City game. One result doesnt suddenly make us a sh!t side. And they have very little pace and thats what seems to hurt us the most. I don't think they're great despite being a very hardworking side. All comes down to whether we take our chances or not.

Loads of people mentioned how we should have been after players with prem experience in the summer. People were moaning that they were signing all these amazing players....

Team playing well under Pochettino: MYTH

Shows that our transfer activity really wasn't that bad. And people saying they would take 6m for Lambert and wouldn't cost that much to replace him. Fact is players are f*cking expensive to buy these days. -
Bit different when they have played in the prem most of their career and are in their peak, rather than new to the league. You can judge someone on a short term basis if thats the case, but if they are young and showing potential, surely it's better to look at a long term benefit!? Fact is, if you buy a player who is in their prime in the prem then you pay them £50/60k a week and a relatively big transfer fee. Our recruitment policy was looking for player who may not be as good now, but are likely to be better in a few years time. Low wages, and value increased. Patience is needed.

No as the club had never seen him play, he joined for nothing after and clearly didnt impress on the training field. I'm not saying Mayuka is a good signing...in fact see my 'Mayuka/Forren' thread. But he's shown enough to get a fransfer to us and not on the cheap. Also changed the game vs Spurs and looked bright plenty of other times.
-
Think we'll win. 2-1
-
Lee is ****e. I never said he was any good. Mayuka who knows. Looked impressive when he's had a chance. Offers us something different to what we have. Surprised he's played so little but to write him off is ridiculous. He's made one start and what, 3 sub apps?!?
-
To write off Mayuka and Forren already is just moronic. And I'd put Jrod in 'successful first teamers'. Probably been out best player under Poche
-
Because to a lot of people who live locally, Southampton Football Club is their life or atleast a big part of it. If it wasn't then people wouldn't pay stupid money to go see their side.
-
Can't imagine what it would have been like on here if our transfers had actually been as bad as some bed wetters are making out to be. Could be worse. Could have brought in pogregnybk Guthrie Gunter marriapa and mccleary....!!!

Well reading through this thread alone, I'm clearly not alone in my opinions. However it gives you something to do on a Wednesday evening.
-
I read pretty much every thread on here. It's called being single, a bit sad, and having Tapatalk on my phone. I wasn't particularly expecting anything, apart from some differing but well thought out opinions. I come on here to talk about saints and occasionally have a look on the muppet show for a laugh. If I'm on the saints forum, I don't expect some moronic threads. (Despite being a member for years!)
-
How? This thread isn't anything do do with the moronic OP.
-
Majority of the time this is perfectly fine. I enjoy discussing my football club with other saints fans. But some ppl on here just ram their opinions down your throat. People like dell days is a negative poster, but atleast you can have decent discussion with him. And he appreciates other people's opinion. These are bellend saints fans or people come on here to just **** people off
-
How about we just give a few posters there own forum to write on. Then I wouldn't have to sift through so many dreadful posrs

Top post.

I was -6 in '83...

I'm all for discussions and differing opinions, but when it's just obvious trolling its just annoying. No need for it. If you have to say such negative things about Southampton, why bother supporting us? You make Alpine look like a half full kind of guy!
