But if we had a better player to play in midfield, then J-Rod might get more of a game up front. The fact is that Lallana and Gaston have been in and out of the side, and Lallana has been poor for a lot of this season. JRod offers a much more there, even out of position. Surely it's not easy for the club to judge how Rickie will do? They know he's a good player and what his strengths & weaknesses are, but how are they meant to judge future form? They can estimate but I'd rather have a versitile JRod as backup and can also play in either wide area.

But how were the club meant to know that Rickie was going to make the step up so well this season? And we only had him and Guly who could play up front if you discount Mayuka and J-Rod. 7m really isn't that much for a highly rated young English striker. I certainly wouldn't have been happy if we didn't have an alternative to Rickie going into the season.

I watched the game again this morning as we really didn't play much long ball. We might have gone long at times but we really didn't play too much long ball at all yesterday. If anything we went backwards too often.
-
But we play with one up front and Rickie is a better player!? If Rickie was the same age as JRod he'd probably be worth £20m. It's a hard one, but I really do rate JRod. He had a few shots from out the box yesterday which had Ronaldo-esque dip!

Gaston was our most influential attacking player yesterday...
-
Ok. Just wondering what you're expecting JRod to do ?! He has been very impressive. Was very good at Wigan away. Far far better than Lallana yesterday. Done ok against Spurs and West Ham. I'd even go as far as saying he's been one of our best players under Poche. Agree Morgan and Cork have been our best players.
-
You said SQUAD. Every single one has improved the squad. Boruc, Clyne, Yoshida, Gaston, J-Rod have all improved the team IMO. Boruc > Davis Clyne > Richardson Yoshi > Hooiveld Gaston > Lallana JRod > Guly..... Gazza is a better option than Bart Davis a better option than Hammond. Mayuka is a better option that Connolly.

Not a L1 squad, but no way a prem squad.
-
Reserve team seems to be there for youngsters to play competitive football. Only 'first team' plays who have bee involved with them this season have been Mayuka, Lee, Barnard and Reeves. No idea why fringe players dont play more often or players coming back from injury don't ease themseves back in.
-
Partly true....but partly not.
-
You're such a bellend.
-
Thing is if you buy good players who have prem experience and will still have a sell on value in a few years, they cost a fortune...in transfer fee and wages. We obviously looked to bring in players from abroad and gamble a bit, also ones who are young so they don't demand a lot in wages. I agree our summer transfer window was dubious, and unfortunately our gambles haven't paid off yet. But they will get better and won't drop much in value either. It's just whether these players are going to make the impact they were expected to have.

We played yesterday.

Did annoy me when the commentator said 'and the spurs go marching on'....f*ck off bellend.

Bale scoring again too.

Rodriguez Is more than good enough for the first XI

To be fair though, that is the system we play. We push the full backs up high to join the attack and give us width. Difference between Shaw and Fox is that Shaw has the pace to get back and rarely lets the ball come into the box. He's also clearly not as good but Fox doesn't have the pace to get back into position when we lose the ball.
-
No. Where have I said that? I'm saying that regardless of how we're playing, our fans always need someone to moan out. Once Guly was out the picture, everyone moved onto Fox. Now Fox is out the side, people seem to be moaning about Gaston. He done well yesterday. Do I think he has done enough so far to justify his pricetag? No, not really, but he is still a cracking talent who can make things happen. Also he wins a lot of free kicks. On another day we would have scored a few from set pieces yesterday. I just don't think he is worth fans just moaning non stop about him. Give him a break, he's still better than a lot of other midfielders in this league.

Boruc; Clyne Fonte Yoshi Shaw; Cork Morgan; Punch Gaston J-Rod; Lambert Davis Fox Jos/Forren Davis JWP Lallana Guly Mayuka

Good.
-
Agree. Our fans have already pushed Fox and Guly out the side, just going to end up pushing Gaston back abroad. He played very well yesterday - just watched Football First from last night...He was involved in pretty much everything we did creatively. Only thing wrong with him is he seems to tire after about an hour. He is key for us.

Why would Pilkington be playing at the back !? Have I missed something ? Big game. They're out of form, we're coming off the back of an awful game. We're capable of picking up a win, and hopefully we get one, but Norwich are a good side.
