Southampton FC were originally called Southampton St Mary's as they were formed at St Mary's YMCA. The Village People, all of whom come from Hampshire and some of whom support the Saints (the Cop, The red indian and the contruction worker), wrote their big hit YMCA as a tribute to the club.
