Listen, you're not wrong. But the point is that the one position in the team that should always be as dependable as possible is goalkeeper, because you can't afford to take risks. Everyone else in the team has someone else to fall back on - except the keeper. It's why going for youthful promise coupled with inexperience was suicidal when so many experienced heads were available, and in my opinion is the single greatest contributor to our relegation, to the extent that just changing that one signing I believe would have kept us up.

To be honest, the description i've heard from people of patient passing between centrebacks and midfield doesn't sound all that different to me.

If you're costing your team a minimum of one goal a game then it really doesn't matter how many saves you make in between.

I agree, not really a fan of it, but the idea isn't for the fullbacks to be an attacking threat it's to allow the midfielders to bomb forward more often. I think it's a tactic that can only work if you outclass your opponent as it leaves the flanks exposed on the counter attack, but we'll see.

Quality of the tournament as a whole so far is pretty poor, the Euros was much better. Probably a consequence of the expanded teams. Reckon it'll pick up as we move into the knockouts.

Not seeing enough going forward from Stanway, Hemp or Toone and Russo's finishing is inconsistent at best. Should drop one of the first three for Daly and have Russo holding the ball up with Daly getting on the end of passes/crosses as she's the much better finisher. Wiegman relying too much on the reliable players from her tenure and putting too much faith in Toone and Russo's partnership from United whilst leaving the WSLs top scorer on the bench.

It's pretty big in Australia. New Zealand struggled with ticket sales, they recently gave away 20,000 extra.

I'm struggling this pre-season with these transfers, not because of the wages paid but because it's such an obviously corrupt way for clubs to get around FFP.

Good goal by NZ as well, result that should improve interest in the tournament. Ireland have a good chance of another upset here.

22 goals and 21 assists in 201 appearances. If by regularly you mean a goal and assist for every 10 games he played then sure. I'd also disagree that he's miles better than Edozie. Edozies minutes last season add up to the equivalent of 6 full matches and he looked very dangerous, admittedly it didn't translate to goal involvements but that's a very small sample size.

Excellent revisionism, he'd have been head and shoulders at cutting back and laying it off to the fullback and then actually running past players twice in the whole season to score.

I was about to make a point about Kompany taking no time at all to get Burnley going and ask why we can't, for once, hit the ground running. However having looked at Burnleys results last season they actually drew 7 of their first 12 games and didn't go top until 14 weeks into the season. In short, i've flipped around slightly and reckon we need to be patient and should expect results to properly pick up around mid october. (They did however only lose three games all season)

Another incident earlier in the highlights where the ball is going down the left and he is in front of his near post (as in, not between the posts) and the ball is squared to be tapped into an empty net. Not sure how they didn't score but he wouldn't have been able to save it even if they'd put the ball in the middle of the goal.

We won't get promoted with him in goal, barring a freak season like we had with Forster under Poch where our defence allows the lowest amount of shots on target.

Because £100million gets you one very good Premier League player nowadays. The fact the same amount buys our best 3 or 4 players (or more) shows how bad we were.
