I am of the opinion that there are better players out there than Puncheon. I still believe he has a Walcottesque problem about him in that he does not have a strong footballing BRAIN. Cannot fault his effort, core skills or commitment to the team dynamic. However his decision making in attacking areas is (when compared to Lambert for example) poor or at best seems slow. This is a similar issue that Walcott had been accused of in the media before switching into the central striker role.. The final ball, the killer pass or the composure in front of goal are still JP's weakness. The run of the mill he does very competently now at this level. Is it an issue that can be coached into/out of him? or is he just not able to think fast enough in the final 3rd? That's up to the experts to decide. Perhaps Mayuka was expected to be the answer. (But to be honest no idea what the question was when we got him!) Such a tough call, with a better run in that position would Guly increase our creative / scoring opportunities by a few percent? I still think we need to see more from him before he gets carried away by being worth big bucks. He is SO close to being the real deal, but he is also dangerously close to being Chicken George Lawrence at times

So we had Davis & JWP as AM's And the transfer committee bought in Gaston. Although the turn round in Davis form (and to an extent Jos) IF whatever was done to cause it was applied to Gaston & Mayuka (even Tadanari Lee) life in the PL could be very interesting

Just to take a What if moment right now on that "karma" line. Let us imagine for a moment that for some disaster we end this season with no owner and no hope of being bought following a collapse in form and relegation. And then look at the team we have today vs theirs in the PL and the fact that our players all have relegation clauses. Two Keepers, both of whom would fetch a fee and do a job in the Championship on wages that a top Champ club could afford Fox & Richardson ditto between the 4 of them we'd get at least 500k for each back in. Jos the boss - would be a snip at 1mil now Jose? Looks a PL defender now and has to be worth double Jos Yoshida? Surely we would turn a profit on him now Shaw? Well star at 12mil in a fire sale. Clyne? English, settled and now PL experienced? surely4mil Davis, Puncheon? would double on money on both. Cork AL & Morgan? a few more games and the big boys will be sniffing in the summer both have to be worth 8-10mil each now Rickie? Even now think we'd get our money back JRod starting to look worth what we paid for him Gaston? perhaps a luxury for the PL and too expensive for Italy, but maybe Spain would get back most of what we paid. The one question I have never seen answered on here is what would those complaining about the removal of Adkins have done differently? I will admit I can start to see something different about the team and the attitude of the players. I can (like everyone else) read that MP is by all accounts a coup to have been able to bring that level of coach to the club. I can understand the fact that there was a window of opportunity where we could get him. So what would people have done differently? MP is an improvement (so far) on NA by the looks of it. So what would YOU have done? Me? I would have told NA he was being replaced and we would honour his contract. I would have made sure that he received the praise he was due in a statement. But sorry, IF I knew MP was coming I would have have had him watching us from the first second.... I do NOT believe that having a "mourning period" with no manager would have allowed us to stay in the PL. I'd simply like to know what else COULD have been different?

Ouch. Ugh oh krap late for work. Just want to mention one point. The International TV feed is carried by PL TV. Last night, both the match taters continually used words such as sublime, outstanding and superb. They were full of praise for the way we were playing all through the game. Their comments about Citeh were how can they drag themselves back into this, they are being totally outplayed. In (blurred) hindsight this morning, it occurred to me that in actual fact the taters AND the Studio pundits (inc Andy Townsend) sounded as if they were Saints fans discussing how brilliant we were, not Independents. Unlike a lot of the press today they were adamant that Saints MADE Citeh look bad by their pressing tactics and all round performances. Again, many comments in the press of late have been how Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd Everton and Citeh had an off day, or had not taken us seriously. The TV taters saw it very differently. We never gave them a chance to play football. Oh and their comment on the penalty? If it had been Dzeko at the other end, the ref would have given it without hesitation.....
