It pains me to say it but I've been impressed by Claridge, for a whining ex-skate he's quite insightful and generally well-balanced as a reporter/analyst.

And Newcastle score 6 as well!. WTF is going on? Surely has to be the biggest scorefest since the 60s across all divisions?

Its an idiotic decision by the authorities/club/whoever, its bad enough walking down towards the Itchen Bridge after the game with cars trying to filter past pedestrians - that just tends to lead to little confrontations because the road is narrower. It was only a matter of time before someone was injured in Northam Rd. If the authorities won't close it we as fans should it would only take a few big lads standing in the road before the railway bridge.

Think its brilliant. Remember buying it in a bookshop in Above Bar and chatting up a very fit assistant by discussing feminism vs misogny (I was like 18 at the time and fresh out of 6th form) and whether it was the ultimate feminist book. Got her number as well

Spirited Away, a Japanese animation by Hayao Miyazaki - the scene on the train heading out through the marshes makes me well up. Toy Story 3 for the usual reasons plus a personal one The bar singing La Marseilleise in Casablanca "I am Spartacus" Anything to do with sacrifice or honour or victory against the odds in the face of adversity (see Rocky) "You're just to good to be true" in The Deer Hunter Joe Pesci getting made in Goodfellas Ok, I lied about the last one.

Regardless of what happens we are perfectly placed for when the Premier League gravy train hits the buffers. The current financial state of football is as unsustainable as the financial markets were before the credit crunch hit. Western economies are basically screwed for the next 3-5 years whilst they recover from the crunch and the debt merry-go-round that finances these big spending clubs will stop. Its already starting to stop - look at Pompey & Liverpool for starters. Salary caps and other financial restrictions (with regard to debt) will have to be put in place to ensure the future of the game. We're perfectly placed to take advantage of this thanks to owning our stadium, being debt-free, and largely paying our own way.

Newsrob if you use RSS feeds Settings Profiles if you need to manage phone profiles automatically (e.g. turn notifications off when you're at work, etc.)

Unlocked HTC Desire is better than the iPhone 4. I support both at work (and have a Milestone myself) and the Desire beats it - flash video, lighter, feels nicer in the hand (the new design of the iPhone 4 is a step back in holdability as far as our users are concerned). Much more customisable although probably slightly less big name apps available (no Tom Tom for example)

That should be fine - fast enough to freeze the action in decent light. Nice cameras the Canon compacts, I would say second only to the Panasonics. 1/3200th of a second is pretty fast - the best film cameras were only slightly faster at 1/4000th, and they took plenty of decent pictures in the 80s and 90s...

RIP Markus, take your place alongside Ted upstairs. What he built, you saved, and we are eternally in your debt for that. This speech came to mind and seems appropriate: "Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land."

Wait till she needs to pay the mortgage next month

Don't know the background to this case but it should be a reminder to everyone (particularly lads) to get yourself checked out regularly. Too many young men die of this or testicular cancer through fear, embarrasment, and a "it won't happen to me" attitude. RIP Adam and condolences to all Exeter fans.

I prefer this, and agree with her ex boss... http://thechive.com/2010/08/10/girl-quits-her-job-on-dry-erase-board-emails-entire-office-33-photos/

So much misinformation in this story. Initial report from ambulance crew was that all three had had their throats cut, then it was suggested that Vicky was found with a bag over her head and the two little girls upstairs on the parents' bed. Now at Andrew's inquest it has been revealed that the mother and daughters were found together. Rumour in Fordingbridge is that the police have not found the knife used on Vicky. And why allow the burial of the children without establishing cause of death? The likely method of smothering is difficult for pathologists to detect but not impossible. Wouldn't surprise me if there was more to come out of this case.

Agree, huge fan of his and he does deserve a decent factory ride. Although rather like Guy Martin I think privateer underdog suits him better - having to toe the corporate line is not his style.

De Puniet is widely regarded as insane by fellow bikers, and that's saying a lot. If he didn't fall off quite so much he'd be pushing the top 3. Never seemed to lose the tendency to crash unlike Stoner for example.
-
Just seen that on Youtube, I'm amazed that they are relatively unscathed and that the bloke who hit the wall has only broken his collarbone. By all rights that should have been a double fatality, the leathers and protection they wear these days are lifesavers (and for the average biker relatively affordable).

By the spectacularly-named Van der Drift. Fortunately only minor injuries, these modern cars are impressively safe...

I never realised until the Top Gear thing that Senna never even bothered braking. Its a fast entry to that corner anyway, but even so it was quite an impact.

I always thought this quote summed him up (from Prost) "Ayrton has a small problem. He thinks he can't kill himself because he believes in God and I think that is very dangerous for the other drivers." Said in '89 after the Suzuka crash.
-
He was utterly unapologetic and there wasn't a great deal of media storm about it - no protests from Ferrari etc. Contrast that to the previous crash between the two when both were at McLaren - Senna got hung out to dry by the authorities for that one. I think a lot of people at the time saw the second crash as justice being done (Prost wasn't well liked being a little bit boring and French). Both accidents were Senna doing his usual "let me through or we have an accident" approach to overtaking, the sort of thing nowadays would result in drive-throughs and grid penalties. I guess its a bit like comparing tackling in the 70s to how it is now.

Fordingbridge has one of the highest murder rates per capita of anywhere in the country now, due to Mondays events and this a few years back, proper evil... http://web.ukonline.co.uk/ruth.buddell/stephenson.htm

I thought they found out who it was, but he's dead now? Possibly went down for another murder in Skatesville?
-
Can't remember what it was called but it was a short series about forensics solving murders - he was caught because they found part of his mother's crutches on a lathe or something. Proper nasty stuff that one, gave me nightmares...

Stuck "dougie latter" in quotes in, was one of only three results that came back. Nice bit of back-story if its true! FWIW my old man said the same thing at the time regarding what they found, living in Butts Road it was pretty close to home and we always used to walk back along Shop Lane from Pickwell or the Plough late at night. Can't remember when it was though - mid-80s? He used to scare my younger brother with it and we've always called it Dougie Latter Lane since...
