  1. Won £500 on Theo making the England squad in 2006. Tenner at 50-1 at the start of the season. Mistake I made was putting it on with a local bookie in Southampton, would have got better odds elsewhere I expect. Remember the old man coming back from a docker's day out at Goodwood when I was a nipper with enough used tenners to buy a new car. I assume it was winnings
  2. Personally I prefer the Lingerie Bowl
  3. Bloke in 42/CC or DD spent most of the first half calling Guly a "stupid black ****" before moving on to homophobic stuff ("We are Southampton, we hate ****ing queers") and ending up with offering Brighton lads out as he wandered off for his half-time pint. All this right in front of the OB, including our friend with the camera. I hope he's one of the ones arrested, they must have enough evidence...
  4. Focus C-Max or Golf Plus if they're on the list, both very good cars. Focus comes with a fancy low-emissions engine which will help with tax. This particular class of car benefits from fitting on the drive (normal family car size) whilst being more spacious inside - great for the family without going the whole hog and getting a mini-MPV (Zafira, Picasso, etc.)
  5. Its hardly a new thing (unfortunately), we got filmed regularly when we were in the Prem for no obvious reason. Fact is we are second in the scum stakes behind rioters as far as the court system is concerned, but we do only have ourselves to blame. Anything that goes on at a ground these days is like a WI meeting compared to the 80s and judges have long memories. As I said up there, cover your face if you're bothered. Although this can be seen as an offence, you're not allowed to conceal your identity from the OB anymore. Just another part of the monitoring system that we've let happen in the name of public safety and anti-terrorism.
  6. We're all filmed, tracked, profiled, and generally monitored throughout our lives these days, there's very little you can do to avoid it. If you're bothered, cover your face (ideally with a Saints scarf You have to remember that as football fans we are essentially scum looking for trouble who can't even be trusted to stand up without harming ourselves
  7. Name calling was hilarious. And following on from the plastic fans thread it seemed to start from the same area as those chants on Saturday so I guess you have to take the **** with the sugar. Never heard that at a game before, must have been distracting though. We were way too casual 2nd half but it was still enjoyable. But the I remember the hoof it to Scott Hiley days so I'm easily pleased!
  8. Not long now. I have a bottle in the cellar and a Montecristo ready for the celebration (irony)
  9. Ah, Portsmouth Poly gig was October 89... http://socialmusic.fm/tabid/61/IndexId/18801/Default.aspx
  10. Nope. Played Portsmouth Poly before Nevermind came out, think that was the first time they played this area. Nice blokes, mate and I had snuck in early and we saw them soundcheck and hung around with them. Think it was before Grohl joined, it's a bit hazy...
  11. If he'd stayed on it would have been Guly, but you can hardly give MOTM for 55 mins and so it's Richard Chaplow Football Genius...
  12. Its only about 5 or 6 lads at the back of 42 (few rows back from me in BB). Bit of banter is fine but yes, WE are Southampton....
  13. Best I've seen but to my mind not as good as Channon's goal of the season against Liverpool, that was faster and mostly one-touch
  14. Straight to pens after ET
  15. The phrase you're looking for is "bloke"
  16. Great to see Barnard on the bench!

    Graham Murty

He's a Reading legend, with a footnote to his career at Saints.
  18. Prompted me to check Wikipedia for Alf Ramsey (an ex Saint of course) and I hadn't realised that he took Ipswich up as champions from Div2 and the following season won the League Championship. Interesting parallels perhaps?
  19. Just a Harvester near the ground, or possibly might get served in the hotel. Or buy a pizza and ten pints at Pizza Hut on the retail park?
  20. Its simple stuff really, isn't it? Five positives, one negative, move on, be positive and if you say it enough it will happen. Same as bringing up kids really - emphasise and reward the positive behaviours more than bollock the negative ones.
  21. Pretty sure you can't use the Park and Ride on a matchday. There are a few places on the trading estates around there that do parking for a fiver, best to use ones the M4 side of the ground if you can or on the old A33. If you don't mind a short walk the quickest getaway will be from anywhere south of the M4. Very little on-street parking in that area unfortunately, its a complete mare of a ground to get to. Lived in Reading for ten years and I could never be bothered with the hassle of seeing Saints away there. Reading supporting mates get to the ground early and leave late because of the traffic. The (park and ride) buses back in to town after the game aren't much help either - they tend to prioritise Reading fans and take an age because of the traffic (almost quicker to walk). Its about a 30-minute walk if you park in the town centre car parks (Oracle or Chatham Street) - distance I would say is from St Marys to the foot of Lances Hill or the other side of the Itchen Bridge. No boozers on route either.
  22. Foolishly I looked up the league record for consecutive home league wins - its 25 by Bradford Park Avenue so some way to go to beat that... Foolish because I know by looking it up I've jinxed us
  23. #we are Southampton, we're top of the league# I will never, ever get tired of singing that, it's ****ing surreal. This is Saints FFS! I once asked a Man U supporting mate whether he got bored with winning, now I understand why he looked at me like I was mental. Chaplow MOTM for me. Kelv made some critical saves and Hooiveld was immense, he made Fonte look shaky which shows how well he played.
  24. Worst I've seen in person was at Anfield, Jason McAteer breaking his leg right in front of me. Like others have mentioned about other injuries it was the sound more than what I saw that did it...
  25. The way this club is run could be the way of the future. If the politicians and UEFA get their own way clubs will need to be run on an even keel with a strong academy being the only way to bring through talent that can make a difference to the performance of the club. A club owning its stadium with strong local support and a fully integrated Academy setup is going to be in a very strong position when the financial meltdown hits. Which could be soon if a big club gets in trouble this season - there is no way that politcians in the current climate will let a sports team get away with not paying their taxes under the football creditors rule.
