Another +1 for Barnard, autographs and photos with mate's two young lads. To quote Rickie they were made up. Younger of the two splits his allegiance between Saints and Spurs, came home and took down his Spurs poster

Had the day off, went to the cinema at lunchtime before intending to head down to Brighton for the League Cup game (Scott McDonald brace won it I think?) Got home to see the 2nd plane hit and hear reports that a total of 5 or 6 big jets weren't responding to hails. First thing I said to the old man was that Bush would take out Afghanistan and Saddam, that was as th report of the Pentagon crash came in. My second thought was that 50,000 people worked at the WTC and I wondered how many had been killed. Suddenly the world was very small, changed by a dozen men who werent powerful or rich or famous for the next few decades. Thats a powerful symbolic message that will encourage terrorists for years to come.

I get the impression that because of the quality of the squad and the fact he's a physio by trade he's perhaps less likely to risk a player. We seem to have less injuries than previously and anyone who can keep Connolly playing must be doing something right behind the scenes. Gave the impression that he thought both Richardson and Harding could have played but he didn't want to risk them - long season ahead, etc.
-
Connolly looked offside from where I was in the Northam but he always seems to play very tight (must have been called off 4 or 5 times today). Pleased we got away with that one...

I wasn't resisting being thrown out, I was a dead weight being dazed from falling down the stairs. Back then I was 20st+ so not easy to lift. I guess we went to different clubs because in my experience you could always have a laugh and a joke and they'd have a quiet word rather than wading in. But they were something you rarely encountered, it was just clubs. Now I've recently seen doormen at a restaurant in Salisbury ffs! Ultimately I think my point is that there are more doormen, and therefore you need to know how to behave when out. Call it defensive clubbing if you like. Have a nose for trouble, stay away from it, and don't start it. Same as defensive driving. Tricky for someone in the public eye
-
In my experience bouncers love a challenge. Being a big bloke (typical bouncer build, I'd make a good doorman) I've had **** off them in the past and now if I go clubbing I tend not to drink and try to keep a low profile. Few years back I was deliberately tripped on a flight of stairs by a bouncer and then forcibly thrown (took four of them) out on the street. Cuts and bruises and a big bump on the back of my skull, I was lucky. Same night a lad was killed in Basingstoke by bouncers. There but for the grace of god and all that. I don't know what the solution is but I feel it's a vicious circle. Reminds me in some ways of going away in the 80s with all the fences and aggro. Violence breeds violence. Being a 40-something I remember when only clubs had bouncers (e.g. the old bloke at Barbarellas) but then there wasn't the excessive mass drinking going on either.

Hate them, especially this early in the season, they break up the momentum.

Won our first three in 88/89 and topped the 1st Division. Drew with Arsenal in the next game and then lost to Liverpool. -

As many predicted the more open style of play in this division benefits our technical ability. Expect 9 behind the ball and shut up shop at St Marys from now one - the problem being of course that teams aren't used to playing that way in this division. In summary: WWWTL -
12m for a crocked 18yo with 30 games under his belt, good business.

Golf mk4 is a big car and tricky to park, rear visibility is pants. Probably no different to most modern cars though
-
Another vote for the Puma, brilliant second car. Although not 5 doors Just watch out for rust, for a modern car they are terrible for it. As to Golfs, don't worry about high miles. My Mk4 TDI has 160k on it and looks new inside and out. Never goes wrong and shows signs of going on forever, still on its original clutch. Not the best handling by a long way but an easy 50mpg and oodles of torque along with an above average interior make it almost perfect. Once you learn how to drive it it will easily outperform most petrol cars in real world conditions. Built like a panzer and so very safe in an accident.

Championship fixtures released - Leeds at home first

Skates on Easter Saturday? Can anyone say Bournemouth vs. Leeds? That's going to be carnage! -
Burgh Island in South Devon for a week, best beach in England. Flat and sandy with decent surf and washed completely clean twice a day. Then hopefully either Majorca (Pollenca) in September or a cruise if I can get a good deal from work.

If you liked Senna, go and see TT3D at the Harbour Lights, it's on for another three days. Story of last years Isle of Man TT featuring the incomparable Guy Martin. Triumph, tragedy, humour, speed, the usual stuff...
-
Saw it tonight, people were sat transfixed, was at the back of the cinema and I've never seen a bunch of people so engrossed. And then the crying started. Powerful stuff, to see Ratzenberger in the pits before his fateful lap, and Senna's reaction, and also the sheer violence of Rubens crash. More than anything though it was the footage of Martin Donnely that got to me, truly horrific and amazing he survived. Transcends F1 in my opinion, a very spiritual film, probably interesting in a different way to non-F1 fans, for those of us that remember his career knowing what's coming at the end overshadows the film a bit. Have no desire to see the Imola sequence again...

Good luck to AFC Wimbledon in their Play-Off final

From a meeting in Wimbeldon town hall to the League in 9 years. The first fans-founded club to do this, what a story. -

Brilliant, Brilliant stuff. Very good friend of mine commentates on http://www.wdon.com , this goes beyond football, this is justice. -
I'd rather compete in the Prem as it's clearly the Five Year Plan but agree, a bit of yo-yoing would be fun. And actually quite profitable. WBA are in good nick financially for example...

Saints V Walsall Post match chat PROMOTION .

Did I hear "we won it for you, rest in peace Markus Liebherr, we won it for you". was what I was singing anyway, proper lump in the throat stuff. Easily the best atmosphere ever at St Marys, so loud for so long. -
Awesome trip. Highlights include buying pizza for an entire bar it was so cheap, being a Lei millionaire for a day, taking pictures of what turned out to be a military consulate where our coaches were parked up and getting a very irate guard toting his gun at me, exchanging scarves with very friendly Steaua fans and chatting to the riot police (calling Ceaucescu a **** who deserved what he got seemed to immediately endear me to them, although on reflection was a bit risky), freezing to death on the terrace in just a long-sleeved Toffs '40s retro, praying it didn't go to extra time due to genuine risk of hypothermia, being busting for a **** on the coach on the way back and waiting until the airport only to find that we had to queue outside, giving Andy Skateall abuse for jumping the queue, getting home at 3am from Bournemouth completely shattered to the point I couldn't sleep, and for some insane reason going to work the next day. Some very dark photos here, didn't dare take a proper camera although I reckon it would have been fine. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kiloran/sets/72157602124751860/with/1429606638/ Looking forward to future European away days, Fulham supporting mate of mine went to every round of their Europa Cup campaign and has some brilliant memories (highlights: Fulham fans lighting sparkler @ the Perm game in response to the home Ultras distress flares!)

Love that Golac goal against WBA, the ultimate net burster.

Listened to the game in Glastonbury on Saturday. Very clear but patchy signal due to hills. If you're driving and listening you'll get the full Saintsplayer experience
-
Proud to say I've been turned away from the Dell car park by him, likely to be the only thing I have in common with KK

Lambert puts the onus on his skill and takes the goalie out of the equation - no goalie in the world is going to save a pen in the top corners of the goal. Increases the risk of missing but if he misses he knows its down to him rather than the goalie having a blinder. I've never seen him stick a pen anywhere else.
