  1. I seem to remember in recent history (early 70s) the Ffyes banana contract went to Pompey when the Southampton dockers were on strike. Thing was that the Southampton dockers were part of of organised dock labour (i.e National Dock Labour Board) whereas Pompey were an independent port. When NDLB ports went on strike in general all their ports came out in sympathy (so we were on strike in solidarity with Liverpool etc). Over time and largely as a result of Thatcher's anti-union policies more and more Southampton contracts went the way of independent ports (esp. Felixstowe) which resulted in Southampton docks being on strike for what seemed like ages in the early 80s (I was a kid, but remember my old man on strike for at least a whole school year). Certainly during that period of losing contracts (and therefore jobs) the rivalry/hatred would have grown. Organised dock labour tended to see all independent dock workers as scabs.
  2. Yeah, you have someone to look after your prawn sandwiches and bollinger whilst you pop off to the loos where someone else wipes your arse
  3. Sounds similar to the one I had involving me, Lucy Pinder, Kelly Brook, and a bottle of baby oil. And about as likely
  4. Which end did we have in 76?
  5. I'm assuming they're in the De Vere if the number of police milling around there at 6pm was anything to go by - 4 police transits in the car park and a couple of squad cars...
  6. Hmm, I thought reselling football tickets was a criminal offence...
  7. At this rate this thread will implode before Pompey does, I reckon it will go pop after 16,384 posts...
  8. Anyone who wants a ticket will be able to get one - Wembley holds 90,000. Carlisle fans reckon they'll take around 25,000 and even if due to segregation our allocation is way less than half you'll still be able to get tickets in neutral areas etc.
  9. Something else to bear in mind, they must be treating everyone who does the same job in the same way. You mentioned that others have had different measures applied to them, if that is the case then its in your favour in a constructive dismissal case. The contract also looks unequal to me, particularly the section about varying remuneration at their sole discrection and without notice (which effectively means that they could force you to work for nothing!). Backdating a performance review is bang out of order as well, do they have a published procedure for this? Once again all disciplinary matters must be dealt with equally and fairly. Your first port of call should be ACAS, they are very helpful. As others have said keep extensive notes. Employment Law is massively in the favour of the employee these days thanks to our friends in Brussels but it takes balls to go through with a tribunal.
  10. Anyone got a link to Marian's goal against the skates? Quite possibly the loudest explosion at St Marys since the Blitz

    NFL

Awesome game. Been watching NFL for almost 30yrs and have never seen an onside kick to start a half. Brees was flawless, a complete machine. And you could see how much it meant to so many of them, loads of them in tears. Not much work being done in Louisiana tomorrow then

    NFL

Great game so far, in the balance and not many mistakes from either team. Thought The Who lightshow was just about the most awesome I've ever seen. And how about that slomo of the Colts trying to take Shockey's head off?
  13. May have fought close by my grandad's regiment then - they put the Hussars and Lancers alongside each other a lot, probably because the regimental rivalry would have kicked in! Do you know which Hussar regiment he was in?
  14. Tank driver in the 9th Lancers. Fought in North Africa & Italy and won the Military Medal at El Alamein (pulled three crewmates from his burning tank and got them to safety under heavy fire). Got to drive tanks because he was short and stocky, not exactly infantry material. After the war he went back to being a milkman with Unigate, such a complete and utter contrast... Never talked much about it but I have some great photos and his medals which mean the world to me. I'm hoping to get to sit in a Sherman at Bovington this summer, I'd like to see what his working environment was like. Photos here: http://photos.kiloran.com/c225557.html
  15. Yep, two lower level endzone tickets. Not a big fan of either team but looking forward to a different view (previously have been in the Club Wembley seats)
  16. We're not selling the corporate boxes as it is, and won't do until/if we return to the Prem. If we need more of them, extend them into the Chapel. Or how about something innovative and selling the ones near the away fans to away teams on a match by match basis? How many boxes would we have to move? 3 or 4 at most I would think, and give the away fans blocks 1-3 (or 4 if required)
  17. Very flat yesterday and everything seemed anti-Pompey rather than pro-Saints. Think the Northam sang OWTSGMI at most 3 times during the game. It is definitely a distraction but I disagree about the JPT being a waste of time. A trip to Wembley for the first time in a generation and chance to win some silverware is a brilliant opportunity and a foundation for where this club may go. A Cup is a Cup is a Cup...
  18. I got two Pompey tickets online early on Thursday morning. Only have 1 season ticket so no idea how - I just tried it on. Almost wasn't expecting them to turn up but they arrived in the post this morning. If I try to buy more now it won't let me though...
  19. Cole needs a good shoeing too - he's appealing a ban for doing 104 in a 50 and has asked for 21 days to pay his £1000 fine (he earns that in about an hour) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8486666.stm Now I'm sure the squad of 66 were naughty boys from time to time but surely not to this scale of muppetry. How parents can let kids hero-worship these ****s is beyond me...
  20. As others have said the worst they can do to you is deduct you 3 days pay. They certainly couldn't deduct you your entire month's notice pay as you have worked it What you do with your days off is your own business, nothing to stop you working for the new company on a voluntary basis The law in these situations (thanks largely to our membership of the EU) is very much on the on the side of the employee...
  21. Oh and when I say there is no restriction, just as a test I added 10 tickets to my shopping cart and it didn't complain. Just got a confirmation email from the club for the purchase
  22. Match is available for sale now, and there's no restriction on online ticket sales (I've just bought two tickets!). Got a full confirmation and they charged my credit card. I'm a ST holder in block 42 so just got tickets in block 41... Fingers crossed that this counts as a contract and they can't refuse to supply the tickets
  23. Too many changes required to make this happen, police won't agree to it as any change means too much mingling of fans: 1. Britannia Road is the best place to park the away coaches, not easy to get in/out of the industrial estate on matchdays and its all private land so the club would need to lease it. 2. The ticket office for away collections is right next to the away section 3. Easy to close the car park as they do now and split the fans at the end of the game Northam/Kingsland corner is a possibility but unless you kept the away fans in for the more tasty encounters you'd have to deny all Saints fans access to the bridge, unless a second bridge is put over the railway line direct into Golden Grove. To put away fans in the Chapel you'd need a ticket office down there and you're sending them in the wrong direction at the end of the game (away from the station and away from Northam Road)
  24. Its the Sport Relief Sock, like the Red Nose for Comic Relief...
