  1. Totally agree, othing against Rothwell, good player but Aribo, S Armstrong, and probably Dibling can play there. Desperately need cover in DM, maybe time for Captain Jack to step up or maybe THB. The other option is Bragg but he is very young.
  2. Teams lose games it happens. Its amazing they've gone 25 without losing one. However this performance has been straight put of September's playbook and that is very concerning. Bad day at the office, learn and move on. Leicester out of sight now, so essential they hurt Leeds
  3. I'm guessing it must have been a huge adrenaline drop from Saturday. They look knackered and there just isn't enough intensity. I hope this isn't indicative of Saints's weakness against the leagues better teams.
  4. I reckon some of you have been spooked by the Leeds and Leicester scores. I don't think Saints are playing that badly. Not in top gear yet clearly but seem to be in control. Team has gel as a few new players and positions.
  5. The defence picks itself, although not having Meghoma on the bench I think is a bit risky. That lad is more than ready to act as a back up and whilst Charles did well at RB he is needed in midfield now. In midfield I think it has to be Smallbone, Rothwell and Charles. Assuming Downes and Armstrong are crocked there is no real choice until Aribo gets back. I assume Bragg will be on the bench Tuesday as cover. It's up front where Saints have an embarrassment of riches and keeping them all happy is going to be a challenge for Martin. Sounds like Che is injured which may well be a blessing as Mara really has forced himself into the reckoning. So up front I guess Armstrong Frazer and Mara with Edozie, Sulemana, and Brooks to come on and cause mayhem later in the match. That isn't even considering Dibling and Amo-Ameyaw.
  6. Then I am going to need some valium, because teams will be relentless in trying to exploit that weakness. I think Charles can do a job there, and Aribo is back soon. So hopefully it won't make Saints as vulnerable as I fear. Agree 100% that Downes is a stand out performer in this league. Not easily replaced.
  7. What a brilliant game of football. Huddersfield were excellent first half. They continually pressed, attacked, and gave our defence a bad case of the heebie jeebies. However that came at a price for them. In the 2nd half they couldn't sustain it and were overpowered. A timely warning that this is what Saints can expect in the Prem, and those athletic machines can sustain it all game. Fabulous fightback. I wondered what on earth Martin was doing putting 3 wingers on the pitch but it worked. First time I've seen Brookes, he really is a class above. Not a chance Bournmouth will sell him. Mara is on fire now, hope starts against Bristol. Great atmosphere as well, the stadium was rocking. No 1 priority for Martin now is to stiffen that midfield. With Downes likely to be out for a while, he needs to make some adjustments.
  8. I suspect it will be a rather alarming reality check. Premier League teams relentlessly press, the players are hyper fit, and they'll be enough X Factor to stretch Saints all over the pitch. No way will Liverpool allow Saints to meander around playing short passes. Diaz, Jota, Nunez and Salah will certainly test our defence, that's for sure. However confidence does amazing things to teams. All is not lost. I was at the Dec 22 game. A real low point imo. Looking at the team then and the team now. Saints have definitely improved. JWP is definitely missed, but good grief that defence, (DCC ABK Salisu Perraud Elyounoussi), plus Amstrong on his own up front. Saints have improved on that side at the very least.
  9. I enjoyed that, first half was a bit pedestrian but Saints were totally dominant. It felt like it would click eventually and so it did. Well done to RM that's what he's paid for. I suspect a lot of us wanted to see how the youngsters fitted in and we weren't disappointed. Meghoma looked like he'd played left back all season, great prospect.Charles on the other side looked very solid. Dibling started nervously but he really put a shift in 2nd half. He has a bit of Jack Grealish about the way he plays. Languid style and hard to shake of the ball. Good to see. Great goals from Mara, nice assists from Adams. In the end a good win in tough conditions.
  10. Clearly gone for strength in midfield. Could even be a 3 4 3 tonight. Hope Dibling has a good game, a good opportunity for him. Fimd out in 15 minutes.
  11. An excellent window. Keeping KWP, Adams, Bendarek, Sulemana, and the Armstrongs cannot be underestimated. Either cash is short in the EPL or they aren't as good as we think they are. Bit of both I suspect. On top of that only one youngster left and the club picked up Brookes. Even Alcaraz going on loan has some positive aspects. Juve will never pay £35 million and he could return as a prepped Premier League standard player. Equally he could be lost to us. Same could be said of ABK but his continued injuries are worrying, but hopefully all is not lost. Now the business end of the season starts.
  12. Well we're not playing him and at his age he needs playing time. It's a good move all round. Sometimes you have to think of the player. Can't just let him rot on the bench. There is a danger that the squad is becoming too big. I can't see how Martin can accommodate KWP, Bree, Manning, and a highly promising Meghoma. Not to mention Holgate or Larios in the background. I suspect there will be movement there. Same situation with our wide players. Suspect Sulemana will go on loan as well. The reality of being a Championship side unfortunately.
  13. Oh well unbeaten run continues. Put Watford out at St Marys and see what they cam do at Liverpool. Not convinced the club needs this distraction but plenty of games for bench players to get involved with. Just hope RM doesn't make so many changes for the replay. I don't think that's helpful.
  14. Last 10 mins has been the Saints we've seen last few months. Good more of that, keep the form going but bow out of the FA cup and avoid that Liverpool away game. Gets that unbeaten run monkey off our back as well
  15. Ha ha Ipswich goal
  16. What we need here is an Ipswich controversial goal and a proper punch up between the players. A few straight reds just to make things difficult for them.
  17. Very much the test of our season. Leeds away is probably irrelevant as play offs will be sorted by then, if Saints are involved. I'd add Middlesborough and Sunderland at home. They'll be going for play off positions and will fight like tigers. The current run is great but Saints aren't being truely tested yet. That Friday game at WBA will be a cracker and will tell us a lot. Nothing to fear from these two on tonight's showing. Although Leicester look a bit more solid than Saints. Love this league.
  18. I don't remember it being like that but guess my memory could be failing me. You can get an atmosphere going anywhere if your team wins. Sadly that was a rare event in the Prem.
  19. Good idea, gives a wall of noise on the rare times southerners can raise their voice. From a fan management point of view it is way better. I think St Mary's is pretty unique in splitting an end in half for home and away fans. Fans of other teams are usually pretty complimentary about their position, that obviously means they can impact on the game as much as any fan can. The safe standing at Spurs is fabulous and it is great to see this initiative being extended. Everyone stands in those areas anyway so why not make it comfortable. This will probably be controversial but I think a decent away section is important for the game's atmosphere. Newcastle is a joke and frankly very unfair on fans who have travelled hundreds of miles to see their team. Deliberately distancing fans from the game and their players is just mean spirited. West Ham is terrible (but they can't do much about that). In contrast Wolves and Villa with a decent side section for away fans gives a good feel to the game. Personally I want away fans to enjoy the experience of visiting St Marys (except the result). For most it's akin to their holidays, nice for them to see a bit of sunshine and drink decent lager for a change. They aren't enemies, just fellow fans suffering just as much as us.
  20. Opps my mistake sorry. However good to see, we are no longer the whipping boys, dishing it out a little as well.
  21. Leicester beating everyone else simply clear the path for Saints. Long may it continue. The upcoming fixtures are going to see Saints lose ground a little. They aren't going to win five away games, so we need to brace a bit for that. I reckon it's going to be an absolutely epic gladiatorial battle for 2nd place between Saints, Ipswich, and Leeds. What a fabulous season, brilliant for all fans.
  22. Quite the opposite, Saints are near the bottom. Other teams are resorting to fouls to stop them. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/fairnesstabelle/wettbewerb/GB2/saison_id/2023
  23. It must be a difficult time for Che. He'll be worried about his form, that is probably a contributing factor to snatching at chances. He's lost his place in the team as a starter. His contract is about to end, which means he is facing unemployment. His next contract is important for him and his family. 5 years of security, into his 30s. I know most fans don't care, they think footballers are loaded anyway. It's all about the club for them, but he's human as well. He should have moved to Scotland in the summer. They love him up there, he's a warrior and he'll be desperate to stay in the Scotland squad. We aren't getting better than Che, he's fit, a model professional, and for all his misses he also scores a few.We have nobody with his physical presence at the moment. Club should give him a one year extension and then see where we are in June.
