Interviewer: Before I let you go I understand that there's another opportunity that's on the horizon for you in the sport of football, European football, we call it soccer....What's going on with Southampton? What can you tell us? What are you going to be doing with this club?
Krueger: They've been approaching me for a while now in a leadership function. The owner is a lady who inherited the team from her father - he died a few years ago and she's living in Switzerland - somebody I've known a while and she's been trying to get me to go on the board of directors of the British premier league team. It's the number one sports league in the world and we are in 9th place at the moment. I will focus 100% on the olympic games but after the olympic games I will be going to Southampton to take on my role on the board and my final job description or where I'm exactly going to be involved is not clear - she wants me to come and work on leadership. We've got 700 employees involved in the organisation at different levels and we have one of the greatest football academies in the world and it's one of the great English premier league teams because it tries to grow from within. Our players...over half of them are English and the academy produces these players whereas most of the English premier league teams are built out of foreigners - we do have foreigners on the team but overall it'll be exciting. I always look for growth, I always look for challenges and it might sound a little bit strange for me to be involved but its all about sports. My job won't be football specific - I will be more on a higher level, working together with the owner, very close on the board which will have 4 people on it and I look forward to the challenge after the olympics.
Interviewer: So you're not going to be playing midfielder or striker or anything like that?
Krueger: (laughs) No, no, no.... I was with the coach the last few days and I said: "You know what? I've been coaching 25 years and especially my most recent experience I know exactly what you need for support and I know exactly what you don't need for support" and we had a chuckle about it... and he's from Argentina, a really strong character, and whether the owner or whether the coach are really on the same wavelength...and I just spent 3 days there and finally made the decision today to step into that world so its an adventure that I'm looking forward to.
Trousers: That's about it.
