  1. Beards (of course) :-)
  2. Paul Gilchrist
  3. I think that deserves a separate thread IMHO of course
  4. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/2309659.the_return_of_the_beard/ WHAT links Brian Blessed, Rasputin, Captain Birdseye and Saints star Andrew Surman? No not a terrible bar joke, but a mighty beard of course. The Southampton midfielder has decided it's time to join the ranks of these great unshaven men by growing himself a face fringe. So does this now mean that we are on the brink of a beardy comeback? Returning Surman himself thinks the day of the hairy chin is upon us again. "I grew it mainly because I had my hair cut short so I thought I would give it a go as I have never had a beard before," said 21-year-old England under 21 international. "Everyone seems to comment on it but I think it suits me. I did get a bit of stick from the other players when I first turned up in the changing rooms with it. "My missus didn't really like me having stubble before but now it's grown past that stage and is more of a beard she seems to like it. I'm going to keep it for a while but there's a lot of growing to do before I get a proper man beard," he added. The footballer's facial follicles have been welcomed by the Beard Liberation Front, a group that campaigns against hidden prejudice towards people with beards. Its spokesman Keith Flett, 51, said: "There are still plenty of employers who won't employ people if they have a beard so Andrew's beard is a positive step. He should keep his beard for now and see if it has an impact on the field as it could affect air currents. "There are several reasons for growing a beard. "There's the green argument where you can save resources by not shaving. "But the main reason why people do it is because they don't want to spend ten minutes shaving in the morning before they go to work. "But it also changes the shape of people's faces and adds gravitas and wisdom. I'm not sure about Noel Edmonds though."
  5. Good job he won't get any reactions then..... ;-)
  6. Forecast
  7. It's somewhat ironic that the '2+2=5' reactions to these sort of rumours are just as assumptive and reading-between-the-lines as the rumours are in the first place....
  8. Why? This forum would be verging on a ghost town if no rumours (good or bad) were ever posted....most pieces of "information" are rumours in some shape or form (i.e. not heard directly from the horses mouth) There might be something in this, there might not. (more likely the latter). It's no different to having a chin-wag down the pub. That's all.
  9. Went to one hosted by Ooooh Gary Davis with 'special' guest Michael Barrymore.... Bournemouth. c.1984
  10. A conspiracy theorist might suggest that is exactly the sort of article you'd expect to see IF something WAS happening behind the scenes (other than a slight twinge) They would probably cite that The club usually stays silent on these matters when there is genuinely no credence to such a rumour.
  11. As Hypo used to observe...if someone posts a negative rumour they typically get slated. But, if someone posts an equally tenuous, yet positive, rumour they typically get a "hmmm, interesting if true, thanks for posting" reply. It's a funny old game Saint...
  12. I think the OP was suggesting that Lambert had already taken part in the photoshoot (probably done at same session as home kit?) but that his neighbour's company (the printers) received a request to 'airbrush' Lambert from the promo material at the last minute. Who knows.
  13. A loss of life is obviously sad, but am I the only one who thought her 'talent' was over-rated?

    Oslo blast

Dune was stating what several reports were saying at the time. Those reports turned put to be wrong. Not sure why Dune should retract a statement that was accurately reflecting what some media reports were saying at the time?
  15. Saints are delighted to announce that they have today completed the signing of Belgian winger Steve De Ridder for a significant undisclosed fee. The 24 year old arrives from top flight Dutch side De Graafschap, and is somewhat of a coup for the Club, as a host of top flight European sides were also chasing the winger's signature. A right footed attacking player who can play naturally on either wing, De Ridder arrives at St Mary's having signed a three year contract, and will offer the squad some proven top flight experience in the wing areas. De Ridder - which translates to "The Knight" - has become a firm fans favourite during his time with De Graafschap, and is known for his lightening quick speed, tremendous crossing ability and tendency to score remarkable goals. "I have got a great first impression about this Club, I have already been treated so well since I arrived and it has given me a lot of confidence. I hope to pay that back on the field. "As soon as I arrived here I was convinced that this was the right move, this is a big adventure for me and I am looking forward to it. The Chairman showed me a video all about the Club and I was sold straight away. "I played with Jan-Paul Saeijs in Holland and he told me that when he was here it was the best time of his life, so I am curious about what is in store for me!" Manager Nigel Adkins was equally satisfied to have completed the deal. "Steve is a young, hungry player who wants to keep developing and that is what attracted us to him. He is an attacking player who has played on both flanks and up top and has the ability to make things happen. "From what we can see his attitude is very good and he desperately wants to maximise his potential, which is underlined by his industrious style of play. "The thing that struck me about him was that he was so hungry for success and respectful of where he is coming to. Steve wants to work hard to be part of the group of players that we have here and has bought in to the vision of where we are going. "All credit to Nicola because he has worked really hard behind the scenes to get the deal completed."
  16. Sigh
  17. You've been a forum member for 5+ years and you thought that....? ;-)
  18. TBF, there were Burnley fans saying similar things about us before we signed Cork. Although the above about Pompey is more accurate of course :-)
  19. I did think "Barnard gets 3 years" would have been a more amusing thread title....
  20. If The Echo have categorical evidence that Chamberlain has been fined, why don't they specify how much?
  21. Sounds like they're gonna force him down the 'transfer request' route in the hope he'll decide to stay put rather than lose any bonuses due...
  22. They say this lad has eyes in the back of his head....
