  1. That's some claim....there's been some stonkers down the years :-)
  2. ;-)
  3. Some of the above "what ifs" did cross my mind too. Cynics of the world unite (in theory...) :-)
  4. No-one got arrested for (allegedly) inflating the SLH / SFC share price in April 2007...
  5. Makes you wonder why a consortium looking to takeover SFC would want a 'professional blagger' onboard...unless they didn't know about his past of course...
  6. Doesn't match the "thick stripes, White sleeves' description from Gary R
  7. Ahem....keep up with Uncle Trousers young man..... http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?31079-New-depths&p=1086122#post1086122
  8. Totally agree. This could all have been nipped in the bud 8 years ago when it first came to the government's attention.
  9. I'll stop when Ed stops.
  10. I was equally disappointed....to see Ed Miliband there, jumping upon the political opportunist band wagon again. So, Mr Miliband, just why did you and your government take no action in 2003 when Rebekah Brooks admitted at a commons select committee that NI paid police for inside information? Anyway, perhaps Ed should have cleared all this up with the Murdochs at last month's cocktail party.... Still, best not turn this into party political point scoring,... ;-)
  11. Maybe a quote of what he actually said rather than the Solent paraphrasing of it would be helpful in determining where he was coming from. IMHO, it's quite normal to want to improve something that is already "good". Indeed, every top business does just that day in, day out.
  12. Barry the Briefcase.... ;-)
  13. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/jul/11/phone-hacking-news-international-gordon-brown " Also in January 2000, one of the paper's reporters used a conman named Barry Beardall, who was subsequently jailed for fraud, to trick staff at Brown's solicitors, Allen & Overy, into handing over details from his personal file. A tape made by Beardall at the time reveals that he claimed to be an accountant from the "Dealson group of companies" and that they were interested in buying Brown's flat. Beardall also practised trickery in an attempt to provide Sunday Times stories about Blair, the then prime minister, and Labour's candidate for the mayor of London, Frank Dobson. " Barry the Briefcase!!
  14. @ExNOTWjourno2 Barry Beardall once was apparently linked to a consortium interested in #saintsfc. ???
  15. " Saints will unveil a stunning new suite at St. Mary's in time for the Memorial Cup on Saturday 23rd July. Fittingly titled 'The Markus Liebherr Lounge' in honour of the club's late owner, this stylish and modern function room will house the finest range of hospitality services at Saints and become the blueprint for all future matchday ranges. The room itself has been completely refurbished to include amongst others, floor to ceiling windows, and state of the art plasma screens to enhance your viewing pleasure, making it the first fully transformed area inside St. Mary's since the stadium opened in 2001. " Is this a conversion of the existing hospitality area or a new area altogether?
  16. I'm thinking Gary might be onto something here.... :-)
  17. How can you prove that he's proved that he's seen it....? ;-)
  18. Ah, ok....Cheers. (sorry, been away for several days and not really been keeping tabs on the developments) Just to clarify my understanding a little further though....what "monopoly" situation are people concerned about here? Is it that Murdoch will end up with a too greater % of the 'non-terrestrial' market or too much of the 'TV broadcasting sector' as a whole? And, what % would he end up of each (non-terrestrial vs whole TV broadcasting sector) if he was allowed to proceed?
  19. No problem with the concept of industry regulators. I thought the ConDems had already handed this one to Ofcom to rule on though? (yes, I know that Ofcom and The Monopolies Commision are different entities with different remits, but, without really knowing how these two organisations are designed to work together, haven't the Government simply played a straight bat on this one? I bow to other's greater knowledge on the matter of course)
  20. I think it's safe to assume that these rogues will have targetted everyone and everything that was in the news over the timeframe in question.
  21. My opinion is that I don't need to voice my opinion overtly when I'm doing so covertly. Just my opinion of course.
  22. Competition of what? Ok, I accept I'm entering Devil's Advocate territory here....but I'm not sure how owning a satelite broadcasting company is somehow going to affect the space time continuum. Surely, if people think that Murdoch owning a satelite broadcaster is a bad thing they will look for alternative forms of entertainment? Reading a book, going to watch Southampton Football Club, going to a popular music concert, listening to the radio, watching the BBC, wathcing ITV, having a picnic down by the lake....etc, etc. Why is everyone getting all het up about a television station? Don't like it? Don't watch it.
