Yes, but all Cortese had to do was convene a press conference in early/mid January with him, Adkins and chamberlain to reiterate, and make it 100% clear, that chamberlain was going nowhere. He could have nipped the speculation in the bud (again) but decided to leave the press to pedal their speculation throughout the transfer window. Yes, I know he had already made it clear in December but he should have overtly reiterated it whennthe newspaper articles hit fever pitch in January IMHO of course

P.s. Good to hear Gobern did well. I've often wondered if he had the capability required to break into the team but it appears he may just be starting to make an impression. Good news.

Maybe, just maybe, our perceived lacklustre performances against 'lesser' opposition is simply the players instinctively (or otherwise) playing in a lower gear to prevent burn-out, injuries, etc, in preparation for a hell-for-leather push for promotion in the last quarter of the season? Maybe this is what we're starting to witness the beginning of with Bournemouth - i.e. They could be starting to run out of steam. Time will tell.
