Which gets me thinking....if they're prepared to pump, say, an extra £5m into the squad to overcome the 10 point handicap why not pump that money in anyway to get closer to guaranteeing instant promotion? In other words, if there is additional funding at their disposal why not use it regardless of point penalties? Unless they're looking at investing the bare minimum to achieve promotion, which is a difficult balancing act IMHO, and banking the 'spare' money for a further push the following season?

Yes, I think it's fair too. I would agree that it's slightly twisted logic to suggest that someone's past behaviour shouldn't be taken into account when forming an opinion on what they may or may not do in the future.
