I wish SSN would stop saying "Let's go back to Southampton".... I keep forgetting they're talking about the test match!
-
Did the presenter also say that she had just heard from a "Source at Southampton" that Morgan and JRod "weren't going anywhere"? Or did I mis-hear that bit? Obviously we'd take such a statement with a pinch of salt anyway

Just said on SSN that he'll be on there "within the hour"

Krueger on SSN "within the hour"

Ask him how much the Financial Fair Play rules have had an impact on our ability to take last season's squad to the next level....
-
If its true then its best they don't shout it from the rooftops whilst trying to get best prices for the players they need to shift....
-
Maybe Ricky was aware of the situation.....would perhaps explain how he managed to miss an open goal from 3 inches off the line.... (Not that I'm suggesting for one moment that any of the players deliberately threw the game under the instruction of the powers that be of course....that would be ridiculous)

Cheers for the update Ron....oops, sorry....I mean Riin

Well, that's always been my hunch, but who knows?

I've felt the same whenever we've found ourselves supposedly in meltdown....when we went into administration, I was excited to see what the outcome would be....when we got relegated to League 1, I was excited at how we would handle that....when Pardew was sacked, I was excited at what would happen next.....same when Adkins was sacked.... Whilst it seems somewhat perverse to be 'excited' by adversity, things usually work out OK eventually....that's why I'm still really looking forward to next season, just as much as I would have been had we kept the same team together and added even more quality. We may fail abysmally....or we might surprise a few people...again.... I laugh in the face of adversity

Bingo.... Maybe Katharina actually shared Cortese's ambition but they were hamstrung by FFP....?
-
I know I sound like a scratched record, but I (and a few others) have been banging on about the shackles of the FFP rules being the straw that broke the camel's back for a long time now. IMO, all of what we have seen over the last 9 months can be traced back to the day in history that Cortese/Saints voted against the FFP rules, and lost. From that day on, the fallout was inevitable....I've always been convinced this was the "financial difficulty" that Hoffsetter was referring to in that now infamous interview.....IMHO of course....

The only crumb of comfort is that GM posted on the Pompey Takeover Saga around the end of the season saying that a source had told him Pompey were on the brink of going back into admin before the start of next season whereas it looks like they may have steadied the ship for a while. Not having a pop at GM there, just highlighting that 'sources' can sometimes be wide of the mark....

Note to self: stop this thinking out loud malarkey on a football forum -

All I was trying to articulate is why our top players are wanting to leave and Everton's (the team we're being compared to by some) seemingly aren't. I was just offering a potential explanation as to why that might be. I could be wrong, I could be right. I'm not as fussed as some are on here about being proven right. I'm just thinking out loud on an internet football forum. I haven't thought any of this through so it could be utter tosh. (Just for once) -

Not sure where I suggested the reason they *joined* the club was for champions league football? Most if not all of our long term players are/were on relatively new contracts and its looking obvious to me that Cortese convinced them that they could reach the next level (European football) at Southampton. The new regime have, we're told, lowered the bar of ambition (or at least not given reassurances to the players that the same ambition is still there), ergo they are seeking the move to the next level elsewhere. Just trying to highlight the differences between player mentality at Saints (in the post Cortese era) versus the current mentality of Everton players as that was the comparison being made by another poster. -

The comparison with Everton doesn't quite stack up IMO. Our players are leaving because they want Champions League football and, rightly or wrongly, they believed in Cortese's ambition/dream that they could achieve that at Saints. Everton got closer than Saints last season to flirting with Champions League qualification ergo their players probably still believe that they stand a chance of achieving it next season with Everton. Our players have lost that belief ergo they are agitating to move to a club that can. Similar(ish) clubs but different enough to make the difference between players wanting to go and players wanting to stay. -
We're officially a laughing stock now.... http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/sport/sport-headlines/southampton-to-play-homeopathic-football-2014072989017

Yep, us and Man City wasn't it....?
-
Why did you renew your season ticket if you knew what was about to happen? Yours curiously....
-
Yep, good article IMO. One of a few journos that have highlighted our plight against the backdrop of the FFP constraints.....and perhaps the main reason why Cortese's ambition could never realistically be realised....

Fulthorpe and Asturius probably worth a mention in the takeover hall of fame.... http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?206-Asturius-Sports#.U9bMU_ldUrU
