How many example's of footballers in world football history can you name that have refused to play for an entire season? What benefit is there to him refusing to play once the transfer window is shut? He may get stroppy again in January, but we could hold firm until the summer of 2018 again. Next summer he'll still have 4 years left on his contract, so he'll still be worth a lot of money if we do as we did with Schneiderlin & Wanyama and force them to stay an extra year. Yes, they weren't happy but they still play a key role in very successful seasons.

People forget just how young Ward-Prowse is and how much top league experience he has already got for someone his age. When Lallana was Ward-Prowse's current age he hadn't played a single minute in the Premier League, let alone for a top 8 team! Ward-Prowse has played in 137 Premier League games at a young age, how many other players his age have that much exposure to playing for a top 8 PL team? It is a tiny number. He hasn't fluked it, he has deserved it.

That might have been ok to say from 2012 to 2016. But last season he was at a higher level and improved significantly, he doesn't make as many mistakes any more and looks a lot more composed on the ball. I'd prefer Stephens & van Dijk (or a new CB if he goes), but Yoshida playing isn't the disaster you make out.

If merely a better chance of Champions League football was their concern then... - Clasie & Pelle would have stayed at Feyenoord - van Dijk, Foster & Wanyama would have stayed at Celtic - Cedric would have stayed at Sporting Lisbon - Mane at Red Bull Salzburg etc etc They didn't stay, because playing in the Premier League & having Premier League wages is a bigger draw for them than Champions League football at a club in a smaller European league.

It only makes sense to buy or have the option to buy Roberts, Saints since returning to the Premier League haven't spend their time developing under 21s for other clubs. I doubt they are going to start now they are an established top 8 team. Forster left Celtic in 2014 Roberts joined Celtic in 2016 They possibly have never met each other.

If Champions League football was his key motivation he would have stayed at Celtic rather than joining us. Money is the motivation and Liverpool could offer him huge wages regardless of them being in the group stages or not.
