The insults you use towards Nicola Cortese are pathetic and xenophobic. All Cortese is doing is not giving any perks to those that criticise him, I see absolutely nothing wrong with that and most people would do the same. Why go out of your way for someone that tries to rubbish your name in the press? Do you think Cortese should give Le Tissier perks and treats, even though Le Tissier has on numerous occasions slagged Cortese off in the media over the last 18 months? Yes, Le Tissier is a Saints legend. But outside of the football pitch he makes some very questionable decisions and doesn't realise his actions have consequences he may not like.

Cortese clarifies the current position (Daily Telegraph)
Matthew Le God replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
No-one has said that in this thread. I just think he is very naive and foolish to think his comments over the past 18 months will mean Cortese continues to give him ex-player perks. -
Yes, of course he can say what he likes. It would be better if he had evidence for his views though, rather than jumping on the slagging Cortese off bandwagon with unsubstantiated rumours. However he shouldn't act all surprised and go running back to the press when the person he slagged off doesn't do him any favours with tickets etc etc. The administrators during administration and afterwards said the club came extremely close to folding. Are they "pretty thick"? Yes, it may make them look better and help their cause in selling the business if they say this. However they still said it and it may have been true. Thus to call me "pretty thick" as you did for believing it may have been a possibility, I feel is unjustified.

Yes, Le Tissier is a key figure in Saints history. But that doesn't give him the right to slag off Cortese with largely unsubstantiated slurs on numerous occasions in the national and local press and then expect to receive perks and privileges from Cortese. Although it is for very different reasons than Le Tissier and on a much shorter timescale, Nicola Cortese is a key figure for Southampton Football Club, without him we could very well have been without a team at all in the summer of 2009.

You can't really compare the two. Never before in Saint's 125 years have they had an owner with real ambition and the resources to match the ambition of putting Saints on the footballing map. Without Cortese/Liebherr the club may have been liquidated in 2009, I think that deserves some recognition in the future.

Do you agree it is pathetic what key members of the charity in question have been doing in the press for the last 18 months? I see nothing wrong with a business telling its employees that they aren't allowed to represent the business at an event held by a charity that has been critical of the business.
-
It does support numerous charity events now. However if key figures in a charity slag you off in the national press on numerous occasions you are under no obligation to support that charity. Also "if" under Cortese's leadership the club returned to the Premier League, I'm sure he won't be forgotten when people review the history of the club.

He is not "just an employee". He was a very close friend with the former owner and was left to run the club on his own. It was also Cortese that set up the whole takeover in the first place. The club's website says the club is owned by the "estate of Markus Liebherr" and not the Liebherr family. None of us know how the club's ownership is now structured, Cortese may have been given far more power than you think. He certainly implies this in the 8th December 2010 interview.

MLT should stop giving interviews like this then... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3117929/Matt-Le-Tissier-Whod-work-for-this-chairman.html or this http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/8160113.Le_Tiss_wants_Pardew_to_stay_at_Saints/?action=complain&cid=8504937 or this http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/football-league/1011/6/le-tissier-i-wouldnt-be-too-much-rush-work-cortese etc etc etc Is Le Tissier really that stupid that he believes he can say all these things (largely unsubstantiated) about Cortese and then expect Cortese to do him favours?
-
Nope, Le Tissier has been making snide remarks in the written and broadcast media for a long time about Cortese. Despite doing this, Le Tiss thinks that Cortese should be doing him favours. I like Le Tiss as much as any Saints fan (as my username suggests), but he is being very naive and seems oblivious to the fact that his actions may have consequences. If you **** someone off in the press with unsubstantiated claims, you can't expect them to give you perks, no matter what you did for the club.

Awesome interview from Cortese, not a man to be messed with! Reading that article I think Chamberlain will be with Saints until at least summer 2012 if Saints are promoted to the CHampionship this year, and will only leave if Saints aren't a Premier League team for the 2012/13 season. The Daily Echo is quick to publish versions of negative stories from other papers such as the Daily Mail. Will be interesting to see if the Daily Echo reports on this Daily Telegraph story, and if it does whether it puts a positive or negative slant on it.

He didn't just break the drinking rules. Watch the video attached to the article.
