Well, that was the question you asked. So you knew the answer already... -

Cortese and Adkins have both said it. -

Why can't you say he is better? It is impossible at the moment for Chamberlain to play in the Championship, Premiership, Champions League etc because he is at Saints in League One. That doesn't mean people can't see he has attributes that make him better at the same age, even if he is playing against League One players. -

But if the club is going to spend money anyway, why would it need £3m for Chamberlain? So to say "regardless of the situation with the Liebherr family" is bizarre. -
Why are you so sure Saints wouldn't? Every season in the Premier League at St Mary's averaged over 30k, including the relegation season of 2004/05 (30,610). That was for a poor team lacking anything in the way of investment in its 119 year (at that point) history. With... - a team challenging in the top 10 of the Premier League - investment in the players - a larger stadium allowing for more flexible pricing structures - larger numbers of away fans in a larger St Mary's ...and I think averages of 40k+ are entirely possible.

Liverpool in the 2nd tier... 1955 - 36k 1956 - 37k 1957 - 35k 1958 - 38k 1959 - 36k 1960 - 30k 1961 - 29k 1962 - 39k

Spurs have a ground only 3,000 bigger than St Mary's, yet are competing in the Champions League. Money can make a big difference and Spurs have spent heavily. I'm sure Cortese is more than aware of the levels of finance it would take to compete at such a level. He would also be aware of whether or not he has those kinds of finances available to him before making such statements to fans at the dinner. Of course without heavy investment it wouldn't happen. But with investment I don't see why you think it isn't possible. Nothing coming from the club at the moment suggests that they aren't investing heavily for the future. For example the circa £5m spent on staff transfers in the last 18 months despite being in the 3rd tier and the multi million pound plans for the training ground.
-
But do these other chairman have the funding that Cortese has? Pointless having dreams if you don't have the resources, it "seems" like Cortese may have the resources. Why is a 40k stadium unrealistic for Saints? Every year in the Premier League at St Mary's averaged over 30k and that was for a team that had little invested in it. If the team is successful 40k+ crowds are easily achievable for Saints. Just going back to the original post in this thread, it still hasn't been explained how his colleagues account is lifted word for word from Spudguns account of the meeting a few weeks ago.

Walsall Weather Watch / Build-up Thread - Game called off!
Matthew Le God replied to Master Bates's topic in The Saints
Norwich and Leeds squad aren't much different to their League One squads from last season. The Championship is quite a poor league really, not much of a jump from top of League One to the upper reaches of the Championship. -

Released at 4pm this afternoon... http://www.footballmanager.com/index.php?p=patches Please remember; only apply the 'Disc' versions of the patches to the relevant disc versions of the game. The Mac eSellerate version will only work with the Mac eSellerate game; it will not work with the Mac Disc version. You do not need to download a version of this patch for STEAM as it will auto-update itself. Doing so manually may cause issues with your version of Football Manager 2011.

When you take agents fees, player signing on fees etc into account, Saints probably spent close to £3m to sign both of them. To sell them on for £3m a year later just isn't going to happen. I imagine another fanciful story from The Sun led to this being released... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2244943,00.html

Good thing he signed a professional contract at Saints a month ago.

How does that make the Daily Mail wrong? I don't like to defend the Daily Mail but... their article on 3rd December says the two players will be sold IF they don't sign a new deal. Then 8 days later Speroni signs a new deal. So it certainly doesn't show the Daily Mail to be wrong.
-
Only foreign clubs in January can sort out deals with players with expiring contracts in England. English clubs can't talk to Lallana about it until 6 weeks before his contract expires at the end of June.
-
Plan A was 442 with lack of movement and didn't work. Plan B was Chamberlain upfront on the shoulder of the last man, Lambert playing deeper, Guly and Lallana on the wing and Hammond making runs/Schneiderlin in a holding role and it didn't work. Plan C was to bring Connolly on for 10 minutes and didn't work.

BBC annoyed with Daily Echo over Saints coverage
Matthew Le God replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
I'd say every 4 weeks. -
Why do you find that so unlikely? Have you not noticed most Championship sides are skint and Blackpool were promoted last season? Newly promoted from League One, Norwich and Leeds both challenging for promotion in the Championship this season having not really changed their squads much from last season.

BBC annoyed with Daily Echo over Saints coverage

I'd just like a local paper that provided good coverage of the local team. The Echo falls short in a number of areas. The continuing practice of "stealing" stories from other outlets is poor journalism. It would be okay perhaps if they had exclusives of their own, but pretty much every Saints story in the paper is lifted from elsewhere(normally the OS/Saints player). Positive stories like that of the Cortese interview are lifted only in small detail and a negative spin is put on it such as the comment about the BBC having a deal with the club. -
Good on them, the Echo just "steal" stories all the time now from the nationals/BBC/Saints OS, but odd to see the BBC air their grievances in public. BBC Radio Solent Twitter...
