5m to keep Koeman or 20m for Carillo .....? Maybe the #SouthamptonWay took a wrong turn somewhere?
-
So basically if we had only given all the Ramirez/Osvaldo/Boufal/Carillo money to Dale Stephens we would still be better than Brighton and we would still be in the PL? Black box= dead fox.
-
Kind of the point. TBF the lad's done good to make himself into a PL player. He looked like an honest journeyman here, then went backwards to Charlton.
-
Gutting to see Brighton getting safe; how many of their players would get in our team? GK definitely, both CBs, both wide mids, maybe Glenn Murray over CA/SL, looks like Dale Stephens ex Oldham and Charlton could be the tie breaker - how much ££££s did we have on the bench on Saturday (approx 100m!). Oh dear.
-
Beyond caring. Kevin Friend has always batted for the big 6.

Nearly £100m worth of 'Talent' not on the pitch yesterday

Maybe, if they use slightly smaller goals in the championship; otherwise probably not considering that the top corners, bottom corners, 6yd line and p spot are all in 'exactly' the same unreachable positions in the Championship as they were in the Prem. As an aside I'm surprised we haven't a thread for McCarthy who I think has been decent (only seen him on telly, not live). His stats don't look great but they're not going to playing behind our 'defence' and I can't think of many goals where he could have done more, he's certainly made more saves in half a season than Forster made in the preceeding season and a half. Interestingly one of the reasons many of the forum soccer nuts gave for staying with Forster so long was that McCarthy was incapable/unpickable at this level. Think he would be plenty good enough next season (hopefully with something a bit more solid in front of him). -
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/oct/11/fa-refinances-wembley-stadium-debt-consortium-banks-reinvestment-football Apologies, we are both half-right, it did indeed cost a fortune to build, around £800m by most estimates but according to the link attached it was refinanced in Oct 2015. The FA effectively have a large mortgage on it but their turnover covers the re-payments with plenty left over. Obviously this turn-over includes the prices they currently charge for their events (which include the 2 FA cup SFs). In theory they could charge less, but if they did it would be at the expense of their nominal 'profits', some of which are re-cycled to grass roots football etc. At the end of the day should the fans of the 4 cup semi-finalists be screwed silly money for their tickets? The fact that neither Man Utd nor Chelsea haven't yet sold 32k tickets shows that the pricing relative to the product is way off beam.

No chance, it cost an absolute fortune to build, think it pays back over 25 years or something like that.

My 3-3 is looking a good bet!

Brilliant half, same again and we can win this, but we can't sit back, Long and Tadic need to give it everything then go Austin and Redmond last 15 mins.

mike dean total ****#house he's going to cost us this game card count is a joke

Fair play to MH for backing Bednarek and playing the same team as last week. #non-tinkerman
-
GET IN, we've been fine so far
-
3-3? I reckon they will get 3, can we get 3? We were much improved last week, we need to take the chances when they come.
-
Is there an actual window for 'general sale'? I don't have a ST or a membership or games from this season but plenty of db history, ex ST holder etc. Will it actually get this far or is there a non-members-with-games-from-this-season window first?

Guido Carrillo - Official: Free Transfer to Elche

I thought watching the Wigan game it would be his last game in a Saints' shirt; not seen anything since to disprove this. 20 million pound for Ali Dia v2.0. -
The current EPL best known club player ever?
sandwichsaint replied to Pilchards's topic in The Saints
Best players I've seen playing for Arsenal = Berkamp / Adams Bournemouth = Wilshere! Brighton = Lawrenson Burnley = Trippier Chelsea = JT Crystal Palace = Ian Wright Everton = Ratcliffe Huddersfield = Leicester City = Linekar Liverpool = Dalglish Manchester City = Ageuro Manchester United = George Best Newcastle United = Malcom McDonald Southampton = Channon Stoke = Gordon Banks Swansea = Toshack (Jack Cork!) Tottenham = Hoddle Watford = Barnes West Brom = Cyril Regis West Ham = Brooking -
Goal line technology - clear and obvious improvement Mistaken identity - not sure we've seen one yet (at least in this country's trials) but potentially useful Offside - useful for 'obvious' wrong calls (where it's wrong by a foot or more either way) - which is extremely rare in itself (I would have used it for Gabbi at Wembley for eg). Where the players can't be split and we have to watch multiple replays to see whether they are a bootlace or a haircut either way - total waste of time, if you can't tell on one real-time viewing and one replay then it's advantage to the fd and he is not off side. I wouldn't use it for penalties at all - the ones we've seen have been very debateable - and most of it comes down to a second round of 'interpretation' - if both sides are happy with a corner and the ref then gets a delayed voice in his ear saying it's a penalty it's a total farce. If we are going to give penalties for holding/pushing/treading/contact at set plays then there will be 5 or 6 every game - is this really what people want? Retrospective diving - definitely a good idea but something that's proved much harder to implement in the real world. We have seen relatively few cases where bans have been dished out. Genie clearly not going back in the bottle and we are lumbered with it but I can't see in what way it will 'settle down' or 'bed in', it is what it is - clunky and totally against the way football has traditionally been played. My opinion was to leave it at goal line technology and I've seen nothing in these trials to make me change my mind. It might be good for the Playstation generation but it's not for the old-timers!

Our best 3 signings since returning to the premier league
sandwichsaint replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
'Clearly' Pochetino is our first best signing, he turned us from wide-eyed happy-to-stay-up newbies to contenders (as in EL contenders but hey, baby steps and all that). Second best RK, little ol' Saints got lucky not once but twice; where once the likes of Sturrock, Wigley, Redknapp, Burley and Wotte froze in the soccer hot-bed that is St Mary's we were blessed to be led by somebody who registered on the worldsoccerometer. And if you want winning football and our highest finish for umpteen years then Ronald was your man. Third best has to be Mane. Lambasted by some as a Swiss Ali Dia, he lit up SMS in a way that those who have endured the Puel/MP years can only marvel at. If I could only live just a few minutes of my Saints-life again those 2mins 56 seconds against Aston Villa would have to go in my all time top 10. -
