Redmond chance was a good save rather than a poor finish. Disagree about flatter to deceive totally however let's see against Prem teams. My problem is that players like Long and Austin are forced wide and deep. Bilbao were treating this as a training game and didn't really threaten much. Our midfield look more mobile, composed and passing better than at times last season but poor opposition this week. Target was ok and put in a few good crosses. I am concerned about Bertrand as he is a vital cog in our squad. We do pass it around more and seem to try forward passes ...well Romeu and Sjobjerg do and work it though the middle better. Am afraid based on this weeks friendlies that's the way it looks to me - players playing a formation rather than to their strengths. Again we were not tested defensively today but look a good shape but Long and Austin don't look comfortable with it or to what suits them. I think 4 2 3 1 would suit more players than this current formation does. As for Clasie someone said he hoped Everton came in for him and I can't argue with that. I am so wanting him to do well but although he reads it well and can pass locally so can Reed and JWP who can take a set piece yet am struggling to see what he offers to start him. So my thoughts again are a bit concerned that this diamond isn't suiting anyone but Tadic. Long relied on a quick pass he only got one and scored. Not sure but players don't look happy no smiles at all although all celebrated goal. Could be just me reading too much into it. Sjojberg and Romeu were good and the Juanmi replacement Redmond looks lively and creative. I don't see the point in Charlie Austin getting the ball deep wide on half way line it's just a waste. Bilbao technically good but I could have played in goal and Fraser didn't make a save. Pied is Paul Telfer mk2 and is ok and did a job. We have too many of same style and standard JWP,Reed, Clasie and Davis although the latter ahead of them but none of the other three do enough for a top 10 team for me. We look solid but are 2 quality players away yet. If we can get the full backs into play - Bertrand and Cedric then 10th as the formation relies on having good full backs that can deliver.

Totally agree with you - I so want Clasie to do well but we don't need him JWP and Romeu at same time he just doesn't offer anything offensively. My thoughts: Redmond very lively could have scored two looks a good signing tried too hard second half. Like him though and will lift crowd. Our system requires decent full backs but ours again showed little end product. Austin worries me as can't play this system looks slow and cumbersome but does the business around the box. Sjojberg looks a good player. Romeu awesome but just always that one wincing tackle McCarthy made a couple of good saves.
