Totally agree. I'm actually having a hard time getting worked up about league results now. My interest lies in the cup and young player development at the moment.

Obviously, i am not talking about how high we are in the league, but in terms of being safe in mid table with a team with great potential in the future. Assuming MP might stay with us, he has the chance to play around with the youngsters, scout players for the summer and try out ideas for a full half season in the Premier league without serious repercussions if experiments go pear shaped. Sure, it was disappointing when we inevitability dropped from the top three, but it was always going to happen. What we are left with now looks like a golden opportunity for long term planning. I are an happy clapper, for sure, but why not?

At this stage, we have no clue about what we will lose, if anything. Facts are better than conjecture, but then again, we will never get the facts.

To me, it looks like we are using the January window to strip some deadwood. Players sell higher at this window, so it's a good idea. We will hopefully be buying some squad players in the summer though, when prices are lower. In the meantime, we might use our league safety to further blood youngsters like JWP and SG along with some others. It seems to me that we are entering a period of greater financial prudence, but not a fire sale or a long term plan for the sale of the club.

Given our league situation, we have a great opportunity to give him plenty of playing time at this level with no huge risk. Rather than the question is he ready for the Prem right now, we should be asking can we get him enough experience in for next season?

I'm disappointed that our gamble on him didn't work out, but if we can come out this with no financial loss it was worth the try.......And maybe Saints handling of this situation will even solidify an already excellent team spirit?

The January transfer window is expensive compared to summer time. We would do well to hold off while we are safe and make deals in the summer.
