Good. Hope we get a move on ratifying Carsten Janker's transfer too.

1. If you have a Jag in your garage, but only £200 to spend this month, do you buy food or go and spend the afternoon thrashing it round Silverstone becuase it's a shame to leave it in the garage. No you get it out and advertise it for sale - as we could by playing Saga You put a message in the local paper with a big for sale sign, an ad in autotrader and put a poster up in the office canteen. You wouldn't just drive it round the village a couple of time and hope someone runs up and makes an offer. 2. There are no points at stake here. Saga playing is not going to affect the outcome of the Man Utd game. Not much point turning up tomorrow then.... (actually you might be right) Not what I am saying; yes we will give it our best shot tomorrow, but from a financial sense it makes no sense playing Saga. 3. Of course it makes sense financially not to play him. Even if we do still pay 65% of wages, that's 35% saved on what we'd pay if he played. Don't think we know enough about the figures to comment on this, but if we can afford him then he should play IMO If 99% of Saga's pay is in a weekly wage, with 1% as appearance fees, then it still makes financial sense not to play him. 4. I don't see the Man Utd game as a shopping window for our players. How many Barnsley players were snapped up by Prem sides after they beat Chelsea and Liverpool? If someone wants to take Saga on loan, chances are they will have seen him play enough already or will take him on trial. Nodoby makes up their mind based on 1 games. Poor analogy - this game was in March with the transfer window shut And we have since had the summer transfer window when anyone interested in Barnsley players would have snapped them up. If someone had wanted their players, they wouldn't have given up just because the transfer window doesn't open for another 6 weeks. 5. Who ever plays up front against Utd looks set for a pretty boring afternoon. How many chances do you think Utd's defence are really going to give us? See the response to point 2 I repeat. Who ever plays up front against Utd looks set for a pretty boring afternoon. I mean seriously, do you expect our strikers to be tearing Utd appart. Please no more pointless analogies about no point in turning up. Even IF we beat Utd, it's not going to be a "total football" goalfest. Aggghhh, sh*t I wrote the last paragraph before I read this. Ok... no more pointless analogies about no point in turning up... starting... Now!

Saints Greatest XI - Nominations For Best Right Forward/Striker
Arizona replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
I think Beattie should get an honnourable mention too. Strikers who have managed 20 Prem goals in a season are pretty rare for smaller teams. Was also a key player in our best season in recent history. Won't win, but I'd stick him in the poll out to see how many he gets. -

Steve Moran and Mick Channon. -
Schneiderlin and Paterson. Would have thought the latter was obvious. Anyway, this is the one game when I wouldn't want Skacel in an attacking possition, simply because we need him in defence. I am already dreading what Giggs, Ronaldo et al will make of Perry and Lancashire, we sure as heck don't need a couple of dodgy inexperienced fullbacks either side of them.

We've still got Aghanistan. Years of conflict, fighting in rough mountain regions and unpredicatble weather against savage locals with backwards views of world politics. I think we are well prepared for an assault on Wales.

I think the most plausible option is that Saga, like many of the older pros, has an appearance/goal fee making up a reasonable portion of his wages. Given that we will almost certainly lose to Utd, regardless of whether Saga pays or not, there is little point in playing him from the club's perspective. This exuse would provide an explanation as to why he doesn't play, without having to miss training with an "injury".

I would go for - - - - - - - - Davis - - - - - - - - James - Lancashire - Perry - Skacel - - - - Surman - - Anderton - - - - - BWP - - - - DMG - - - - Holmes - - - - - - - - - - Pato - - - - - - - -
-
Sh*t I never thought about that. Oh well Delldays. Death before dishonour and all that.
-
Yeah, like heck they haven't.
-
It's quite sad really. The club is so messed up at the moment that the whole Dyer situation seems perfectly normal.
-
However heated this gets, I can't really see us sending in the troops to liberate Ukraine.
-
You want rid of our best striker (bit like saying genital warts is the best STD) and bring in a CB??? Don't get me wrong, we are not strong at the back, but our other striking options are Pato, BWP and McGoalkick. If Saga goes and we don't replace him with someone at least as good (Robertson that's not you) we WILL go down IMO. No doubt about it. If Cork and Dyer leaving means he stays, then I'm fine with that, even if Saga only manages another 5 goals this year.

Looked like a 4-4-2 a bit to me. Or at least 4-4-2 which had grown up near Chernobyl and hadn't received the best of medical treatment. Our problem with the 4-2-3-1 formation is the 3 just don't know what they're supposed to be doing. The two wide men especially tend to drift inside and offer no width, whilst at the same time not providing any shooting threat. The guy in the middle and the one up front are goal shy duds, namely DMG, Robertson or Euell. I think the formation could work IF we use the correct players: - - - - - - - - Davis - - - - - - - James - Perry - Lancashire - Mills - - - - Surman - - Cork - - - - - Lallana - - - Skacel - - - Holmes - - - - - - Saganowski - - - - - - It CAN work BUT we need good players, and they need to stick to their roles. In particular Holmes and Lallana need to stay wide. For Holmes I doubt this will be a problem, but Lallana needs to accept that his place in the team is as a winger, not a striker. Rigidity isn't the problem, it's rigidly sticking to a role which doesn't contribute to attacking play. I'd still prefer 4-4-2, but our current formation could work if Portaloo knew what he was doing.

Saga and Skacel up front would be my first choice.
-
Can't help but feeling we'd be able to afford better defenders and attackers if we hadn't filled up our wage bill with waste of space midfielders like Gasmi, Pulis, Smith and Anderton. If we get rid of Robertson and Pekhart, it'll go 1/3 of the way to paying Saga's wages with no detriment what-so-ever to the squad. Andy I agree with most of that, although I think Skacel and Euell are on the wrong list. Rudi is a must keep IMO, whereas Euell is just another hit and miss underperforming central midfielder. A left flank of Holmes and Skacel looks like being one of the few strengths in our side come the new year.
-
Are we talking movies with a Christmas them, or just movies you watch at Xmas? If it's the former then 'Home Alone 2: Lost in NY' gets my vote. The original was good too. Also Die Hard. For the latter I'd say: Jurassic Park Wallace and Gromit The Great Escape and the brilliant spoof Chicken Run When I was younger I liked Toy Story and Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. E.T. is karp IMO.
-
Pick any 2 from BWP, Saganowski, Skacel, Euell, Paterson or (preferably not) DMG and Robertson. We played 4-4-2 when we beat Reading, with DMG playing slightly deeper than Robertson. Worked pretty well then.
-
Saga has no more or less motivation than any of the players in our current squad. No reason to assume he wont put the effort in here. I think he was even quoted in the media as saying he was looking forward to coming back.
-
Pahars would have to be my favourite Saints player of all time, but he wouldn't be amongst my first choice strikers, so I'll nominate him.
-
Mad as some people might find this, it's a price I am willing to accept. Pearce is hit and miss. Cork is quality and would be a miss, but I'd rather lose him and risk relegation than not have an experienced striker and definitely get relegated. It's a sad World if we can't afford Cork. I always thought Lowe's redeming feature was his financial nouse. If he can't get Europes 2nd richest club to cover the wages of one of their youth players for 6 months he really is f**king useless.

Even if he had matched his scoring rate from last season, he'd still have scored almost double what DMG has achieved this season. With John and Rasiak now confirmed as gone for the year he MUST stay. Absoluely must. We are never going to stay up with DMG scoring once every 36 hours of open play and bugger all from anyone else.
