  1. I don't think Rasiak was that bad last season. 8 goals in 16 starts and 10 sub appearances. If you take 3 sub appearances (ie. 30 minutes) as one start, that's 8 in 19, which is getting on for a goal every other game. His build up play was no worse than any other player either. After Rasiak and Skacel left at the end of January, other than John, only 3 more goals were scored from open play for the remainder of the season. Your statement about JP at the end reminds me of the Americans in WW2 saying, "we will win because God is on our side." To say Poortvliet is on your side is somewhat misguided. I don't think it was Poortvliets decision to keep John ahead of Rasiak at all. More the fact that we got an offer for Rasiak and there is no way we could refuse it, whereas we haven't yet received an acceptable offer for John.
  2. That would be the one who captained Derby to promotion in his first season after we released him.
  3. I think if they put both of them on the goal line, we'd stuggle to find a space to get the ball through. Seriously though, it will be interesting to see where they play Wright and how well he copes against a hopefully very energetic and purposeful side.
  4. I think the point you and several others are missing is that Rasiak isn't nescessarily a detriment to the first team. As SW pointed out, in the playoff season Rasiak was in the team fairly regularly. At the same time Jones got 15, BWP got 11, Saga got 10 in 12 starts, 3 midfielders got 4 and a handful of other players chipped in with the odd goal or two. Far more team goals than any other season I can remember in recent history. In our first season in CCC we had Jones, Ormerod, Pahars and Fuller up front. Plenty of energy there and we couldn't find the net on a fishing boat.
  5. I don't know about per game, but he scored 14 goals when Saga was on the pitch and 5 when he wasn't. Given that Saga only started 15 games, I think there is a strong link there somewhere.
  6. Think Top Gear did a sketch on the Countach a while back. James May drove it and the general analysis was along the lines of, "never meet your childhood hero's" How about the Lotus Esprit? Will spend half it's life in the local Kwikfit, but still looks good IMO.
  7. I agree with most of the sentiments on here. BLA is the only reality TV show I have ever watched, although I might stary watching strictly come dancing now Rachel Stevens is on it. It served a purpose and was generally interesting to watch. Also most of the guys on it genuinely wanted to change their ways, rather than the washed up, attention Z listers on BB and I'm a celebrity GMOOH. Bring back national service!!
  8. I se you've just taken the names Le Tissier and Rasiak and completely ignored the whole point of my argument. I am not comparing their ability, although a couple of you seem to be implying that to discredit my argument. More their workrate. I rate MLT with Gazza, Cantona et al. amongst the Premierships all time greats, however he was hardly energetic. John has a higher strike rate, but just cannot play on his own. Although similar to Rasiak, this is one difference between them. I can't put my finger on why, it just is. I don't think the other team members would score any fewer with Rasiak in the team than DMG, John, BWP or anyone else. Remember the cup final season. Ormerod and Beattie, two hard working strikers. I don't think the rest of the team managed 20 goals between them. Anders got about 3, so did Fernandes and Tessem. Oakley, Mazza and Killer got a couple each. That doesn't compare any differently to when when had Rasiak up front in the playoff season and Skacel, Viafara and Surman got 4 each, II and Baird got a couple, Licka, Wright and Bale (from open play) got one each.
  9. No, I am not saying Rasiak is exempt from any effort, however by your logic, he shouldn't play in any team anywhere because unless you have 11 men behind the ball all the time, you can't defend. What about MLT. I don't remember may people telling me he should be dropped because we can't defend. I also don't remember many people saying we should drop Rasiak in Christmas 2006 when he was the leagues 2nd top scorer. When Rasiak plays up front in this team and fails to score and we start conceding a lot more than we were before, THEN I will see that he doesn't fit. Capital letters at the start of "Saints" and "Rasiak" btw.
  10. Since I am thick, could you explain this too me, or is it just that I disagree with your oppinion?
  11. Ford Mustang is a sure bet I reckon, although some of the third generation GT models looked a bit naff, especially the convertables.
  12. Built like a tank though.
  13. Cureton had one prolific spell at Colchester a couple of season back. Other than that he made double figures just once since in 2002, when he was playing in League one. Lisbie also had one decent season in the CCC with Colchester. He scored 17 goals in 12 years and 155 appearances for Charlton. If you include the goals he scored on loan, he amassed a grand total of 23 in those 12 years. I wouldn't call failing to reach the 2 goal a season barrier prolific. Agyemang. 21 goals in 123 appearances and 4 years for Preston. Just over 5 a season. 20 in 120 and 6 years at Wimbledon. Hasn't reached double figures for any other club. Beattie, yes I'll give you that one, although he is hardly a workaholic and cost more than double what we paid for a marginally younger Rasiak.
  14. Prolific is defined as producing in a high quantity. Pace isn't his strong point, but some people are under the illusion that 20 goal a seasn strikers who run like Brett Ormerod are ten a penny in CCC. If you can name 5 I will be impressed, but I can't think of any. I think it is also wrong to write him off as saying not suited to this system. I don't see why not. He may not move much himself, but if the likes of Holmes, Lallana, Gillett and Schneiderlin were doing work and creating spaces for him, I think he could score a few. All he really needs is half decent supply and he WILL score goals.
  15. And so the bashing of one of the most prolific strikers in the league continues. But hey, who needs goals when you can run around a lot.

    SWP back to City

Hmmm. I think Keegan once said BWP was one of the best finishers he'd ever seen at that age, so maybe the barcodes with fork out £12m for him.
  17. Get well soon Mick.
  18. I thought he wouldn't sign Adebayor because he didn't like his attitude? He also refused to shell out £3m for Drogba and £5m for Roskicy IIRC.
  19. I don't think you can say Oakley was ever a glory hunter. He moved from a Saints side who had a new manager with money to spend and were widely tipped for promotion, to Derby, who had just finished something like 18th and were in serious debt. He moved because Burley wouldn't give him the same 2 year contract he offered Wright less than a month later.
  20. If they are in the first team, I can't see them wanting to go back to Chelsea/Spuds reserves. If they aren't in the first team, it's not the end of the world if they leave. Also, Saganowski's loan is only until January also, so if Pekhart doesn't stay, we may well Keep Saga to fill the void.
  21. I wouldn't let him take a penalty anyway TBH. *cough* Norwich *cough*
  22. I think Super Kelvin Davis gets that every now and again.
  23. What I meant was we are capable of losing to a team one week, then barely a week later the same side at the same venue beats them.
  24. Rory Delap Primarily a midfielder, played up front when we beat Liverpool in the relegation season and was used as a RB thereafter.
  25. Yep, I believe it was a midweek game against Wednesday. IIRC he took the ball past 2 defenders, before scoring after 3 minutes, only to have it (rightly) disallowed for handball. Tessem is also correct, what about Euell? I remember him playing in defence against Bury in the cup, although he didn't start.
