  1. Actually its a bit of a shame as despite the best efforts of labour they did work quite well. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/may/02/general-election-child-trust-funds
  2. Its my home from home....
  3. As Steve knows well the number of views are only updated every so often (e.g. 5pm) (....consolidating my third place....)
  4. Surely your 'Biggest Surprise' should be 'See winner'?
  5. Leaving the door open for straight red's then?
  6. Shock New manager ??? http://www.thespoof.com/news/spoof.cfm?headline=s6i75272
  7. Player/Manager I am sure, so that's 10K for each.
  8. Will be interesting to see what some of the high earners on contracts still valid for a year or more do. Can the administrator actually do anything if they say "I have a contract, please carry on paying me silly money"? There is the talk of the 10K salary cap but can they actually force it on those with a valid current contract? I guess many will realise that this last year they have only managed to get paid till the end of the season because they were 'to big to fail' in terms of the effect of them being liquidated mid season would have on the PL. Now that's no longer the case so I guess they will be balancing what they might be able to get elsewhere that is definite against what they might get trying to sticking out their contracts.
  9. Will Avram get a staff discount on some of the WHU Chairmen's less salubrious publications I wonder?
  10. Just confirmed that Ballack will miss the world cup http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8684774.stm Wonder if they can sue!
  11. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/may/17/portsmouth-avram-grant-fa-cup-final "I'm not sure how many will be left from the team that started the final," said the midfielder Michael Brown. "Maybe four or five." It sounded as if he were being optimistic. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/portsmouth/7730744/Portsmouths-entire-FA-Cup-team-to-leave-club-or-face-major-pay-cut-next-season.html Portsmouth's entire FA Cup final team will be sold, released or asked to accept a major pay cut as the club introduce a weekly wage cap for next season of £10,000.
  12. I hope the, with luck, soon to arrive, new owner of his house appreciates all the improvements storrieteller has been doing, especially with probably being able to get it cheap when storrieteller has to sell quick to cover his debts.
  13. As a lib dem voter I, like many, have mixed feelings about it all. On one hand the sight of Osbourne makes me reach for the sick bucket but on the other I accept that of all the options available given the number of seats at the end of the election this is probably the least worst. Tory Minority Government Would get bogged down with deal with smaller parties, lots of horse trading, probably end up with another election before the end of the year. Likely to squeeze further the libdem vote. Lib/Dem Pact with Labour Would never have worked as would need ALL MP's on both sides to vote together and too many labour MP's saying they would rebel.
  14. Apparently the main reason for this is not to protect the tories but so that the tories, on their own, cannot decide to have a snap general election.
  15. Surely given their current state the posters should read 'Pompey til they die'??
  16. El Reg recently did a group test: http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2010/05/11/grouptest_uk_mobile_broadband/ Which said 3 was best.
  17. Unfortunately Cameron and Osbourne are rather joined at the hip so can't see him not being chancellor (at least till his first major ****up).
  18. No.
  19. And that is worse than a system that regularly disenfranchises 2/3rds of the electorate?
  20. Plus you have to take account of the fact that electorate vote differently for different levels of government. So on europe you get more UKIP, national level you get more Tory and at local level the may 6 elections saw a rise in labour local councillors. It appears that many voters are not tied to one party but change their allegiance depending on what the election is for. Also though people can try and extrapolate from the FPTP results what would happen in a PR system its quite likely that given PR people could and probably would vote considerably differently. One 'stat' of interest here is that during some of the polling (admittedly when the LDs had bounces to about 33% in the polls) something like 45% of people polled said they would vote libdem if they thought their vote would count.
  21. I was under the impression that he could vote, but only to resolve a tie.
  22. At the moment the FTSE is down 1.3%, but then again almost all the markets across europe are down, for example the Madrid ibex index is down 2.4%. Looks like a bit of morning after the night before/profit taking on the rises yesterday from the euro rescue announcement than the beginning of Armageddon. oh and the pound has fallen 0.07% against the dollar...
  23. Think the sensible money has to be on Oz finishing top and I think with the net run rates India have to bet SL by a fair amount to go threw second (assuming of course Gale does not inspire WI to beat Oz).
  24. I thought it was a purple colour? It was I am sure when the result was announced.
  25. Interesting article about it: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/apr/12/gold-gordon-brown-sell-off As I said we were not alone in selling off our gold, in deed the other countries probably got better deals because they sold theirs off earlier when the price was higher.
