  1. And as the article says, having played against him. Wow. Its almost as if a newspaper article has been created following a pre-game press conference.
  2. Really, this. People so entrenched and obsessed with "the left" and "the right" and which side of the divide they are. i think I've voted for red and blue at various stages in my life, and will continue to make a conscious choice each time based on their merits. To not do so is a bit blinkered, isn't it?
  3. Illuminating stuff.
  4. I don't even know what Cortese's plans are, but if its anything more than a top 4 finish once in a blue moon it's massively unlikely, however optimistic a CEO he is.
  5. We're not too far away from mid-table as it is. 3 points off Stoke who are 11th, and we've needlessly dropped so many points by sh*t goalkeeping and stupid individual errors early in the season. But we've already spent a fortune to get that far, that's for sure. Getting above 11th and challenging for anything above our highest ever PL finish (8th) is where it'll take real effort. Liverpool currently 8th, and God knows they've thrown money at it. Everton are the only club that have any sort of model for how we can do it, but they've almost bankrupted themselves to get so high with no tangible reward.
  6. Pompey aside, has this not actually happened in the past ten years? Actually, make that twenty years.
  7. Are you saying it was impossible to do both? Not all available Prem experienced players were solely knocking around the lower clubs. Even if they were (and survived) they were better options than toing and froing between Kelvin and Gazza, praying they wouldn't f*ck up again. And better than own goal Jos who got blinded by the lights of the PL. Nobody has ever said every signing we made should have PL experience. Nobody said that. Just that one or two in key positions could have made a difference.
  8. Swedish Dave in spouting sh*te shocker. Chris Perry was too old to get an extension, yet Dave lists a load of other oldies to try to prove a point. Classic.
  9. Both of those things would indeed make me ROFL. Especially number 2; that would be comedy gold, I think the poor lad would have a proper breakdown, bless him.
  10. What a shame you were too much of a coward to do anything about it at the time. You just went limp and quiet like a complete wet flannel, and are pitifully now trying to extricate yourself from the sad fact that you did absolutely f*ck all to fight against this vocal minority you now relentlessly campaign against.
  11. What has the Premier League from ten years ago got to do with today. Weird statement.
  12. He did, and had a few games for Saints reserves before being picked up by Wycombe.
  13. Fellow day trippers from Portsmouth, most likely.
  14. Not quite the same, but Steve Guppy became the first player to win a medal at both the old and new Wembley stadiums; the League Cup with Leicester at old Wembley, the FA Trophy with Stevenage at the new stadium.
  15. He started out (and still is) a Spurs fan. His bio here: http://www.speakersassociates.com/Iwan-Thomas-MBE.aspx lists his work for the Saints Foundation but says he's a Tottenham fan.
  16. Michael Wilde posted on here as Saintmarc.
  17. The club can say they have all the ambition they like. At the end of the day, if a bigger club such as the traditional big 4 come in for our players and offer to pay them more than we are, then they'll naturally go. Our first challenge is being able to fight off the likes of Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle when they come calling, the clubs outside the top 4 that w've lost players to in the past. Saints can be a certain niche club, and can attract young players like Clyne and (hopefully) keep them for some time. As soon as the big clubs come in with a determined move for our players we have little chance, and can only hope to maximise the transfer fee. And I've a feeling that Cortese knows we can never compete with the likes of Man United.
  18. HRH Queen Elizabeth. Such a staunch Saints fan that she has refused to attend a Wembley Cup final since our victory in 1976.
  19. *awaits Dalek's painfully dull contribution in 5,4,3.......*
  20. With the current stadium size we'd need to consistently sell out the corporate areas to get back to those levels. There have been a lot of games that have sold out of regular seats this season (perhaps even as many as half our games have sold out of home tickets), but the Liverpool game was the only one where we saw an attendance higher than 32K because the corporate areas were finally full. And we've also seen quite a few games this season with attendances below 30K, which we didn't see during the peak season.
  21. Entirely sh*t.
  22. Surely "All the Saints" would be a title for a book that was an encyclopedia of every single player that played for us. This book doesn't seem to be that. Agree that "All Saints" is a bit better, but still not quite right. I like beatle's "Once a Saint" suggestion.
  23. Sorry, but I'm not a fan of any of those. I suppose All the Saints is the less bad one of the three.
  24. I trust that all these reputations points are being logged somewhere? I'd hate to think it was just some random thing that was getting thrown around willy nilly, and nobody has actually thought to write them all down.
