If Saints were in Euro 2012, how well would we do?
The Kraken replied to jawillwill's topic in The Saints
You're going to have to try much harder than that; far too obvious. -
It doesn't seem to answer in one way or the other my original point.
-
Probably, but I can't be arsed to wade through it, I was hoping for a summary.
-
True. The best kit we've ever had:
-
And for comparison, do you have a list just of the amount of clubs in red that have won the championship compared to the amount of clubs in various other colours that have won it?
-
I actually meant the top division. As I inferred by my previous mention to Manchester United and Liverpool, who have worn red shirts and between them won nearly 40 top league championships. I did ask.
-
You must have in your nerd football kit archive a list of which colour kit has won the top league the most often, surely? Can you let us have it?

No idea about wages, but from purely a talent perspective I'd choose Ben Foster over Rob Green every day.

I love the delusion on here, its often quite sweet. Last season we couldn't beat Bristol City home and away. This year, with exactly the same players, we could beat Greece, Poland and apparently give England a game. Top work. -
In any case, Ben Foster is the keeper I'd love Saints to sign.
-
What is our wage structure. How much are our players on?
-
F*ck me, really? You were the one that said he wouldn't leave West Ham; not for Saints. I showed you a reason why that was wrong, and that he just wanted out of West Ham. You then went down some other path of incorrect assumption and accusation. Jesus, lets leave it, you've confused me as well as yourself.
-
Matthew Le Nerd will probably be flicking through his stat books to correct you, so I'll pre-empt him to state that while teams in red have won a total more championship titles than any other singular colour, this is statistically flawed by Liverpool and Manchester United inidividually winning so many titles but actually the variance across the range of different clubs to title wins compared to the colour kit they wear .... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I don't know. My guess is, falling out with the WHU management aside, he wouldn't just walk out of West Ham without an inclination that he'll get something as good or better elsewhere. And, 32 years old and in the England squad, his stock is fairly high. As stated before, I don't think there are any top 6 clubs that would come in for him as first choice keeper. Spurs maybe, but only if Friedel is deemed as too old. Top 10; maybe, maybe not, I certainly think Reina and Howard are better options. Bottom line, I have no idea what sort of wages Saints are offering, so I have no benchmark on whether we could get Green or not. The only things I do know are that I would very much like to sign him, and that if he does come he would rightly be a first choice keeper.
-
No, your statement was that he only wanted out of West Ham for 3 reasons: I pointed out that (from what I and seemingly others have heard) that you were incorrect, he wanted out of West Ham for different reasons. As a consequence, your question of "why would he choose Southampton over West Ham"was redundant. Happy to clear that up.
-
I'm beginning to wonder if you've actually read anything I've written. Or indeed anything you have. I didn't say Rob Green would come here over other clubs. I didn't say he'd only go to "a Liverpool or a Tottenham". You did. I didn't say Southampton are bigger than Fulham or Sunderland. I didn't actually say anything about our prospects of signing Rob Green, one way or the other. So what exactly are you trying to prove me wrong about? My only opinion was that he was better than our current keeper. I'm really struggling to wonder how you've tried to twist it to this new way of thinking.

My Sunday league side had been playing football together for around 15 years before we hung up our boots a few years ago. How far do you think we'd have got? Maybe the finals? -
What? Where have I suggested that? In fact, what are you going on about? I just said he wanted out of West Ham. I never said he'd definitely come to us. I certainly never said he'd only go to "a Liverpool or a Tottenham". I've no idea where you're going with this now.
-
Good one. Don't like the answer so revert to sarcasm. Sorry it flies in the face of your otherwise stoneclad argument, but there we go.
-
As others have said before me, but I've heard the same. He had a bit of a bust up with the club management and wants out. If true (and plenty seem to think it is) it makes the reasons you list a bit redundant.

Really? I'd never heard that before. Ever. -
Well, most importantly you're definitely missing something: he wants out of West Ham, come what may. So that's not an option. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/west-ham/9308831/Goalkeeper-Robert-Green-leaving-West-Ham-this-summer.html Your other opinions are subjective but I disagree with all of them, aside from Friedel and even then only on a basis of age. You yourself said he would go to a "Liverpool or Tottenham"; I don't quite classify Fulham or Sunderland in that bracket, do you really?
-
You'd have to ask who, though. Liverpool: Reina Spurs: Friedel Villa: Given Everton: Howard Newcastle: Krul I can't think of any of those clubs who would look to get rid of their keeper in favour of Rob Green. Who am I missing?
-
Why not? What is our budget on weekly wages for players, now we are in the Premier League and (supposedly) with intentions of qualifying for Europe?
