Forster KWP Stephens Salisu Perraud Romeu JWP Diallo Tella Redmond Broja 4-1-4-1 / 433. Hit them on the counter, Romeu to sit deeper almost as a CB. Free hit, will probably lose. 4-1 my predo but hopefully better.

I'm at the theatre for a matinee during this game for the wife's birthday. 🙄 What's the best way to get goal alerts to my phone so I can feel the vibration when there's a goal in our game? Draw today would be ok. Play like we did on Tuesday and we could win.

Like properly smashed it in top corner. Their keeper almost had it. It reminded me of MLT's flicky goal against Newcastle - absolutely amazing skill with a finish that (even MLT agrees) could have been better and was a bit scuffed. Still even with the Goalie touch it probably goes down as one of the better goals we've scored this season. But ultimately, of course I'm delighted for him that it went in. Hopefully we get to see many more and beyond this season.

One of the best things about the Broja goal is having that anticipation and excitement as he makes his way towards goal. When I was watching, as soon as Romeu (at the time thought it was JWP until I saw JWP praise Rom in the celebration) played the ball, I was off my seat. Broja's first touch took it away from the defenders nicely. The finish could have been better but it was great satisfaction seeing it go in off the keeper and I'm massively pleased for him As for the other goals, Bednarek's showed that JWP can put in a good corner, Diallo's showed the value of sometimes taking a shot, and Adam's (which I missed on my stream initially) showed that route one football sometimes has it's place. Brentford were poor (bar perhaps Janelt) but they did pick up in the last few minutes. Funny how, as a Saints fan, we can still be nervous 3 goals to the good! My man of the match was Captain Fantastic, but everybody on the pitch had a decent game. Diallo was tenacious, Fraser made decent saves and the 3 CBS were chucking themselves at everything like it was a cup final. Tella played well out of position, Perraud rampaged forward (though his end product needs work) and Romeu was... Romeu. Broja is something special. Really only Redmond could be considered as having an average game but such was the strength of our bench we could replace him with a goalscorer. Very happy today. Seems like a big win has been a long time coming. This will give the lads confidence heading into a tricky run of fixtures. 24 points after 20 games should mean mid-table this season if we can push on and keep people fit. Let's also win the FA Cup shall we? 😁

I’ll admit, I thought we had a better chance of beating Brentford when the tie was originally scheduled than tonight, but we’ve really played well. We want 5!
-
Surely we can’t bugger it up from here… can we? 😳

I think I read it's "as live". So from the beginning just an hour and a quarter behind. Edit... but who knows until it happens! Either way I'm early to bed for work so will only follow it live.

We have one sub left? Hoping Fraser doesn't get injured/sent off, I'd be bringing on Lyanco for Perraud. Go 3 at the back. They'll be the dominant attacking force in extra time. I feel sorry for the bench youngsters. Had we cruised this without the sending off, Olaigbe or Chauke could have come on.

Poo just came out. Well done Gran Muralla.

We're going to balls this up aren't we. 10 men and extra time will knacker us. Still at least it won't be as embarrassing as Newcastle today. Agree Perraud has been poor. Thought Tella was ok. AArmstrong has done nothing since he's been on. Swansea passing us to death.
-
They can sign all the big name players they want. It will make beating them all the sweeter in the rearranged tie.

I'm glad Ralph has acknowledged we need a 10. A first choice one too hopefully. I also think we need a CM long term (DM) but I'd take a 10 this window. I think GK will wait until the summer.

The Minsk Memorial Thread (and continuation of his work)
SNSUN replied to Minsk's topic in The Saints
I seem to remember it was this point last year (iirc) that we were on 29 points and Ralph said something along the lines of "it's a good job we have that many" as we had injury problems. We then went on a run of one win in 12 so he was right. Hopefully we don't suffer that dip in form this season. We seem to have better resources and squad depth this season so fingers crossed. -
Good news. World is his Oyster. While usually glass half full I often wonder what our team would look like if we did get relegated and I think we'd have a top Championship team with the likes of him in it. Not that I think we will go down this season, though I don't think it will be comfortable...

I agree with the supply issue - Broja, Armstrong, Adams and Tella should be enough for goals - we lack good AMs, especially without a fit SArmstrong. I think Redmond still has something to offer but the rest are meh. New AM please.
-
Sounds like a sneaky middle finger to the new Newcastle owners. Lovely. It definitely sounds like the new people have a plan to make us competitive (more so than we already are anyway).
-
Typical - I've been off work for 3 weeks with a head injury and Saints wait for the exact moment I go back to work (literally heard about it on Talksport in the car) to announce a takeover! I haven't read the ins and outs on here yet as to what it means, but there was only so long we could last in the Prem without investment in the playing side (rather than selling to buy). I think we have a good set up here so I hope that not much changes, but the ability to be competitive in the transfer market would be nice. Start off with a decent AM and I'd be happy! (I appreciate we're not going to be the next Newcastle) but every little would help.

Perfect time to play Newcastle with no Wilson and St Maximin... so naturally of course it will be postponed. Granted it also means when we eventually play them that Salisu will be back but this would have been a good time to play them as they’ll splash the cash in Jan.

Ref really has been awful. Card Happy. This game is over as a contest. Valery at centre back in a two? Either we bring on an untested Simeu or Romeu that can play there. Brave to stick with Valery from here.
-
Just tuned in after a family lunch to find us one nil up! Sure enough seconds later and we've conceded. Let me guess, we've played well? Looks like West Ham are well on top now.

Harry Lewis has previous against Arsenal in a 5-0 loss. A certain Theo Walcott with a hattrick that day! https://www.11v11.com/matches/southampton-v-arsenal-28-january-2017-352101/ But that was a weakened side that day and I'd guess that even with injuries our current side is better than that. Don't get me wrong, I still predict an Arsenal win and I reckon Caballero will play but I don't think it will be a thrashing as long as we can keep 11 players on the pitch. Play dirty but not too dirty. 3-1 Arsenal.

Come on Saints - 18 points after 15 played isn't too bad. Can't keep scraping draws... and Brighton are the bloody draw specialists of the league. Need some immense defending. (and a breakway Saints second goal would be nice!)
-
A second would really calm the nerves but we know what we're like in the second half. How is Lyanco getting on?
-
All fart no shit? Looking at the table, this is our chance to win and keep pace with mid-table over Christmas. Too many crap teams at the bottom are picking up points.
-
Can we nick this? Draw isn't terrible. Lose now and I'll be pissed off. Especially with a winnable game against Brighton coming up we could really rise up the table or at least have a bit of breathing space to the bottom 3. Squeaky bum time.
