  1. I've been mowing the lawn and had some thoughts. FDB seemingly wants reassurances that we are going to keep the squad and not sell. If that is the case then he is the wrong man for the job. At Saints we all want that, but that isn't how football works. You have to take the rough with the smooth, and FDB like RK and MP, is happy to take the smooth, but is unrealistic about the rough. I guess that that defines the stepping stone manager. Only interested in themselves, and therefore cannot accept the rough which happens to a greater or lesser extent at all clubs. It's just that when it happens to the richest clubs, they can drop £30m+ on a ready made replacement.
  2. I think on balance, if given the choice, I would rather AVB than FDB
  3. Has he though? Short term yes, but in the long run, if you **** over too many people, it tends to come back and bite you. Having said that, this is football that we are talking about, so morals and ethics don't really apply.
  4. Or maybe Agent A also took RK at his word and that he would see out his contract at SFC, so instead turned to another of his clients who was out of a job to fill the vacancy at EFC.
  5. £70-80m? Add in Mané and JWP and round up to £140m
  6. I can speak more than one language - can't you?
  7. No idea, but why not look here and contact them: http://www.lawinsport.com/articles/tax-law Nothing ventured,.......
  8. With Moyes, it is easy to write him off. Spain was a disaster but they aren't keen on foreigners and I am not sure if he could speak the language. It is easy to write him off with his 52% win ratio at Man Utd, but he was deemed a worthy successor to Fergie.
  9. AMBITION This will of course be mentioned. It is seemingly synonymous with football players/managers moving having done the dirty, as they use it to absolve their ****ish behaviour.
  10. Stepping stone vs longer-term Name Time as manager Arsène Wenger 19 years, 250 day Steve Bruce 3 years, 365 days Eddie Howe 3 years, 238 days Sean Dyche 3 years, 221 days Mark Hughes 3 years, 8 days Manuel Pellegrini 2 years, 349 days Aitor Karanka 2 years, 207 days Mauricio Pochettino 2 years, 11 days Ronald Koeman 1 year, 357 days Tony Pulis 1 year, 158 days Alan Pardew 1 year, 156 days etc etc taken from wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_Premier_League_and_English_Football_League_managers Wenger is old school. It might happen again, it might not, but is there any point going for long-term if the life span of the job is so short? And given that, aren't stepping stone managers going to be more eager and hungrier or success, albeit most likely to the detriment of the academy?
  11. Rowett currently at 33s. I'm surprised the papers haven't been on about Gary Neville. TBH his time in Spain was doomed to fail, as the players didn't want a foreigner coaching them. I'm not sure that I would want him given how little experience he has under his belt, but was wondering whether people felt he would be capable of doing a good job in PL? Me, I would think he would be better suited to move down a league first.
  12. Maybe the Sun are trying to ingratiate themselves with Liverpudlians.
  13. Stirling went for £50m, not that that was good value, but who would you rather have in your team??
  14. ??? ??????? You been on the sauce to help you with your melt??
  15. Nordic, why not grow a pair?
  16. Or you could say that if RK was interested before the manna from heaven appeared, then why wouldn't FdB?
  17. We're not supposed to. Imagine you are a resident of Zhengzhou, who would you rather watch....Chelsea vs Liverpool or WBA vs Saints? Advertisers and TV companies are going to pay for the big boys, not us small ones. It's not really in the interests of the PL bosses to have a hugely level playing field that allows the likes of us outside of the big boys to challenge every year. Leicester last year wasn't in the script but seeing as it has happened it can give the impression that anyone can do it and the PL will no doubt use that (even as the title winning team is ripped to shreds).
  18. The only weight that anyone in football is interested in, is the weight of their purse. To think otherwise is very naive.
  19. Hardly a surprise given what he had quite emphatically said in public.
  20. If this is the winner I'll match JDs donation. Now how about an annual Saints Web charity to run the course of a season? There are so many worthy ones as mentioned above.
  21. FFS, I don't want to advocate POL tactics, but can we just ban Evertonians for the next month or so? This latest one with the list is just plain embarrassing. WTF is it with them telling the world how big they are? Are they that insecure that they feel the need to ram it down our/everyone's throat? We all know EFC is bigger than SFC.
  22. As my father has it https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/
  23. Well thank **** you've used up your 3 posts. Ambition is rather sad if it is just how much money you can throw at things. If that is what you mean by ambition then good for you. I guess it is the way football has gone. Me, I want to grow the academy, see players come through from there. Sell some to fund other parts and do it that way. All I ever see is people trotting out "ambition" with reference to how much a club will spend on other club's developments. Hardly ambitious that, at least not in my eyes. It has become the excuse that players and managers use when they have acted like a ****, as if it absolves them from said ****ish behaviour. But then me and football are nearing the end of the road. I love Saints, don't get me wrong, but I can't abide the monetary side of it and that is what will ultimately drive me away from the "game".
  24. Can we just remember this - - or have we moved on?
  25. Do they? If, for example, it is FdB, SFC have already been working with the agent so it might just be as simple as crossing out one name and putting in another. Of course nothing is ever so simple in life so I don't expect that to happen, not least because FdB might not want the job. But who knows.....??
