  1. The more I see him on Sky Sports the more I realise that he gives Townsend a run for his money for spouting inane rubbish.
  2. He is known for not being a prima donna in the slightest. In fact quite the opposite. But a non-scoring striker - we already have Mayuka.

    JayRod

Owen was good but lost a yard.

    Hesketh

Mayuka is so ineffective that it would surely be better to have an academy player instead. Is it Rowe who plays in the same position?
  5. Wouldn't the stadium have been expanded if we had been nominated as an IRB WC15 venue? Out of interest, why did Brighton get chosen before us? I thought that one of the major problems at Brighton is the transport links.
  6. I am fairly sure that it was reported to be a London thing. People who live in/around Manchester/Liverpool might well think that their cities are lovely, but to a foreign player, London is so much more of a pull, ESPECIALLY when they have wives/girlfriends and family in tow.
  7. There is a difference between us and them. They are a brand, we are not. Brands attract people from all over the world, while we rely more so on the locality. Saints supporters from outside of Southampton are still the minority. Man Utd ran a competition a few years back in Thailand to win a trip to OT to see a game. They had millions of people enter it. Liverpool have a game in Sydney's SCG, and 100k Liverpool supporters turn up. We have a pre-season in Belgium and 25 people from Southampton turn up.
  8. I wonder what his value would be now, if he was to be sold. Certainly not £25m or above. Doubtful it would be over £20m. £15m? I know Ross McCormack was £11m and Long was £12m, so maybe £17/18m
  9. Hence why I'm on a knife edge as to whether to leave football on a relative high or plough on being force fed shït about the PL teams in the CL.
  10. "They gave up their ambitions to be in the champions league and cashed in." Karma's a *****. Wonder if Lovren's head is somewhere else......
  11. Europe League for Liverpool. Lallana went to L'pool to play CL. At least he got a reserve team run out at Real. Maybe they can win the Europa League.
  12. "Knock it up to Skrtel in and around him"
  13. Aye. Stevie or Lovren?
  14. Townsend is a ****
  15. Love the commentators. How f''ing biased are they? Typical media thinking that everyone loves Liverpool.
  16. Lovren looking lost running around his box for that goal.
  17. Not harsh at all.
  18. Not a great w/e for the ex Saints. Poch can't be happy with a draw at home to Palace. Those are the sort of games he really has to get his team winning otherwise the fans will get on his back. They are trying their hardest to give him time, but... Chambers. He seems to be in love with yellow cards. With his 2 today, is that 9 for the season so far? Lambert - not playing in a system/team that suits him or can benefit from his strengths, but at least he is starting. Lallana, seems to not be making the impact that he thought he would. I see that someone in the PR department is continually trying their best to portray him in a good light and using the excuse that it is such a great step up to play for the mighty Liverpool, where expectations are so much higher. To be honest, I am never quite sure whether there is something in that, or whether my feeling that it is BS is true. WTF is going on with Lovren? Is he now a £20M reserve defender? Frankly, and being petty, of all those that left us, he is the one that I hope fails completely. In that respect, I rather hope he does it while conceding goals so that it rubs off on Brenda. While I would never like someone to lose their job, I might make an exception with Brenda (while taking WGS's view on it - being sacked as manager is "no longer such a big deal" as it happens so often. Shaw is still the one that I think will turn out to be best, that is if LvG doesn't stick him in the U21s
  19. Really? 2009/10, players sold = £4.5m, players bought = £2.5m (nett earning £2m) 2010/11, players sold = £0.0m, players bought = £2.6m (nett spend £2.6m) Let's take, for example, Huddersfield. 2009/10 nett spend £1.5m 2010/11 nett earning £0.25m Or maybe Brighton 2009/10 nett spend £0.4m 2010/11 nett spend £0.6m So really, saying we bought our way out of the league isn't really accurate (if going by transfer fees which is what I was referring to Man Utd above) seeing as the 2 seasons in L1, we had a nett spend of £0.6m. That's more than some, and less than others.
  20. I'm quite looking forward to seeing the youngsters playing. It's about the only thing that is keeping me interested in football at the moment. For some reason the press's story today about Man Utd having another £150m war chest to spend this and/or next transfer window (bringing LvG's total to about £300m) struck me a bit that the whole thing is completely pointless. What really is the point of carrying on supporting an industry that is so obscene with the amount of money swilling around from so few? I realise that in the scheme of things we are part of the problem and compared to some in this league and all in other leagues, we are very rich. I think that our performances this season so far have rather papered over the cracks for me.

    Hooligans

    LOL
  22. He's a bit of a fool, but I imagine that he might be closer than most give him credit for.
  23. TV is a poor substitute for being at the game IMO. Cost of ticket vs cost of subscription to Sky? Personally happier to have spent £700 on a ST than Sky (esp when.......)
  24. He should have been more honest. I owe a lot to SFC and the academy, as they got me to a standard that allowed me to leave for a big club (at the first opportunity so as not to waste any time) where I can earn so much more money than I ever would be able to at Southampton and also play CL. But now, Saints are in the past and it's only Arsenal that I have any feelings for.
  25. Do you man mark Aguero, and if so who would be best at that? Toby, Morgan, Vic? If Morgan, then I would be concerned that he has 4 yellows to his name. However, man mark him, maybe disrupt our normal game, and maybe take the eye of other threats. As an aside, it is interesting to read that Man Utd might be planning to buy Bale for £150m (!!!!!!!) so that Real can buy Aguero.
